Air unit anomoly

Some anomalies have popped up in the air unit inventory: Many aircraft have duplicate listings eg:
· A5M (Claude) [never deployed] / A5M1 (Claude) [first production model]
· A6M5 Reisen-kai / A6M5 (Zero)
· A6M6 Reisen-kai / A6M6 (Zero)
· A6M8 Reisen-kai / A6M8 (Zero)
· Re 2001 Falco II / Re-2001
· Re 2002 Ariete / Re-2002
· Re 2005 Sagittario / Re-2005
· B6N2 Tenzan (Jill) / B6N2 (Jill)
· B7A2 Ryusei (Grace) / B7A2 (Grace)
· D4Y3 Suisei (Judy) / D4Y3 (Judy)
· Battle / Fairey Battle
· Do 355 Pfiel / Do 355
· Barracuda Mk. I / Barracuda
( + others)
So should/will these aircraft names be consolidated? There’s no difference that I can see between a “Battle” and a “Fairey Battle” but keeping the two names could confuse the casual buyer.

That looks like a standardisation issue.
Should japanese planes be listed under japanese(A6M5 Reisen-kai) or US (A6M5 Zero) names, or both (A6M5 Reisen-kai (Zero)).
Should british planes list the designers names (Fairey Battle) or not (Battle).
Generally I'd be in favour of as much detail as possible. But then again, aircraft as I understand will have added info anyhow. So a very short ID (like A6M5, Battle or Re 2001) should be sufficient to appear on the counters.

My opinion is that the Japanese planes should appear with their letter code, follwoed by their Japanese name if there is one, and their allied code name if there is one. i.e. A6M5 Reisen (Zero).
Should british planes list the designers names (Fairey Battle) or not (Battle).
It would be too overloaded to add the designer of each aircraft, not only British. I vote for the FAirey Battle be called "Battle".

I for one am in favor of
not touching the designations of the counters, but haev a standardisation rule for the designation heading of the details of the counters. That is, the "Fairey Battle" counter would keep that name written on the counter, and the "Battle" too, but bothe their designation details form would list the designer (Fairey) and their name (Battle) as a standardized display.
I vote for a
no change to the counters because if you change the counters names, the people playing the real WiF game won't recognize the counters. They may even believe the counters are different, or falsely feel that Matrix has edited the counters in some ways. The counters needs to be identical to the paper counters. Event if there are dicrepencies.

I agree with what Patrice says here. Let me simplify this for you, if I can.
(1) The counters should be left untouched for a whole host of reasons.
(2) Some of the counters have different names for the same aircraft. The historical writeup can state this fact and give all the different labels that were attached to the aircraft type. You can go into more detail as to why if you like, or simply just list the different names. When the player requests historical detail on any one of the matching air units in the game, he will see the same writeup.
As I understand it, this means that you can check a bunch of 'duplicates' off your task list?

Not as many as I'd like but we're still aiming for a December finish[:)]
