Questions on Game Mechanics

OK - Been playing for hours and I'm bleary eyed and tired so after trying the manual I'm still left with two questions:

Facing for single units: I'm presented with a yellow outline which I'm happy with. I go back and check on that unit's facing and it's shown in white. BUT - that white outline is much smaller than the yellow outline showed when I was deploying the unit. It's confusing me, particularly when I want to set the facing, say, just on the edge of a woodline.

Sleep: A dug-in unit is sleeping and is assaulted. Do I need to change it's orders to "Defend" or keep it on "Sleep"?

What you must distinguish between are formation and unit frontages and facings. The frontage/depth and facing that you set when you give a force an order are the "formation" settings. However, you cannot control directly the individual settings for a unit. This is handled by the AI. This is true even when you give a direct order to one unit. While the units that make up the force you have given the order to ( referred to as the forceGroup or FG ) will endeavour to comply with the settings in your order they may override these from time to time - eg if they detect an enemy threat to the East they may change to face that direction despite the fact that you have ordered them to face North.

We have revised this code in COTA reducing the liklihood of this occuring but it still may.

Re Rest. Units resting simply defend but with greatly reduced probabilities of firing at the enemy. They still do so but are less active. You can wake them up with a Defend insitu order if you like, but then they may be too fatigued later. That's your call.
