No "digital version" (pdf files - Vassal) ?

Post by PDiFolco »

Hello,
Since LnL is out, I've said to myself I should have a look, but just did it today .. Well, better late than never !
So I got the BoH "demo set" (pdf file), loaded the Vassal module and had a try ... Very good and fun game, ASL-like but simpler, more fluid, *much* more beautiful ! Great ! [;)]

Yet I'm pretty sure I'll never play a "board" game with it, and I'm reluctant to throw out 60+EUR (I'm in France) for a box that'll gather dust...
I would have liked to have a "digital version" - pdf rules and material, along with the Vassal module (completely free) , for a reasonable price like 25$. This is what Dan Verssen (the DiF designer) now does with his games (but the Vassal modules must be reg'ed for protection) , and I believe the first LnL game was sold like that by Shrapnel.

It doesn't seem to exist here for BoH, surprisingly for Matrix that pioneers digital downloads for *all* its other games, *and* has now Vassal rights ! [:'(]
Any plans for that ?

Nope, but with FH, the VASSAL mod does ship on a ROM with the game. It isn't a digital game.

Best,

Mark

Thanks Mark for the precision, any way I wasn't sure and said "I believe that" ...
Anyway as for my question, any plan to have "virtual versions" on sale ?

Mark,

I think this would be a great idea for future releases. I bought the game but would actually be very satisfied with a digital download as I'll never play using the board and game pieces. In essence, I'll never use part of what I paid for, which is ok, but, seems like you could capitalize on "impulse" buys a bit more by offering this. Not sure how you protect the rules etc from being copied and distributed though... I guess you'd have to figure that part out!!

DVG (Dan Veersen) has a registration key for the "full" Vassal module of its games. It could work here too .. except that the modules are already existing and free, hum ! [X(]
