Industry ...?

Hi,
I supposed from comments that WPO is without industry ...but some industry is there anayway...HI, Resources, Shipyard, Armaments assembly, Vehicle assembly,Engine factories...
Are they needed ?
Do I need produce armaments points to create weapons for my LCUs ? Do I need those engine factories ?
Or they are there just to create some targets for City attacks ???
I'm confused...

They are there for targets, and for the AI. The AI collects resources and such, so this gives players convoys to hunt. In PBEM, they can be completely ignored... for now (we are looking into maybe making it where resources and HI produce supply, but as of right now they can be ignored).

thanks for answer
limited industry idea could be good...for example just oil, resources => heavy industry => armament, vehicles, shipyards

Well, you still have to route convoys (Supply is produced in Japan, but needs to be shipped). With WPO I wanted to focus more on the actual combat planning than industrial planning. Plus, I wanted new players to be able to jump right in as Japan, and not worry about "if I don't set my factories right on the first turn will that screw me for the rest of the game."
Trust me, supplies and fuel will be vital, but moreso for the US than for Japan in this game.

Besides, as supplies and fuel aren't produced when you capture a base, you'll have to keep it stocked (though you will capture large stockpiles).
Trust me, the lack of industry isn't a hindrance. Convoys will be just as (if not more) important. But I felt that with WPO it would be better to focus on combat planning versus industrial.
Besides, the production system is in, so we can always have production variants if people clamor for them.

Tankerace, how is supply produced in Japan? Do they get a set amount per base (a la Chunking in WitP)?

Yep. They get enough that they will always survive, but you will need to stockpile up before launching offensive operations. ( I think it comes to about 2-3,000 per turn total in Japan. I forget the exact number right now.

As a Jap (mainly) who hates all this economy stuff that is music to my ears!

The way WitP handles Japanese war industry and production is so horrible and user-unfriendly that I *never* want to see anything similar in WPO. Never. All that industrial stuff and playing some kind of Albert Speer wannabe is what prevents me from fully enjoying the Japanese side in WitP. Please don't make the same mistake in WPO.

I wouldn't go quite that far, but I certainly sympathise with this view - running the economy does put me off, mainly because you [/i]don't[/i] really.
OTOH I love playing Victoria. I know, I know, it makes no sense! [:)]
If WPO runs the 'economy' as a way of creating convoys for me to attack, I shan't be complaining - until the point arrives that I've halved them with no tangible result, I suppose!

Hmmmm, all this limited industry talk causes me to lean closer and closer to purchasing this game. Don't get me wrong, I want to learn it one day but with WITP it has held me back from playing the Japanese side too seriously.

In WITP all you really have to do is get oil to
the bases with industry and also a ton of it back to
home islands, thats it...
I don't understand the problem with industry, if you leave it alone
it will produce, if you change a bunch of things with it in the beginning
such as switching a bunch of aircraft factories over to different types
then your supplies will dwindle quickly as it should because you are
committing your resources too just that switching factories around.
I did it in the beginning with a game playing Zeta16 and I had literally
5,000 or less supply at all my home islands for the first 6 months of the
war, we are heading into 11/43 at this point and my factories are cranking...
so it is a big deal but you overcome it...
You will want to make small adjustments as you go to build more of something
like guns and tanks and the occasional engine qauntities,
also swap around some aircraft that you really don't want too many of..

Wrong forum, but you make it sound simple and it's not - I'm going to be so, so pleased that WPO doesn't have all this overhead about which engine type - which is incorrect / incomplete data in any case - and such. You can't actually control the economy, which makes me wonder why it was included in the first place. I've heard so much "You have to do this...." that it's really, really off-putting.
WPO seems to be free of all but a useful vestige of this. (At least, as far as I can tell. Roll on my Xmas bonus!)

I for one am glad that they kept the jap production the way they did in WpO. I got what i want in witp. Now something that just gives me the beans and bullets.[:D]
