Screen garbled

Every now and then, usualyl when I'm in a hurry and don't have the time to restart the game, the screen gets garbled when I load up the scenario, or a saved game.

It looks like the old graphics dont get removed, text tends to remain in place even when new text tries to replace it, resulting in gibberish.. etc. It's hard to describe it as taking screenies of it doesn't work. Has any other player experienced it? Is there a workaround? .. I'm trying to process a PBEM turn but ive started the game three times now, and every time the same thing happens.

Wow, never heard of that happening. What are your PC specs, could be the ram isn't completely clearing out.

I've seen this. It happens in WITP as well for me. Always solved by closing the game and restarting the application.

helps when you have the most current video drivers as well. It is never as severe for me, generally I get another peek at the loading game screen when I'm not expecting it, then my vid redraws and I'm fine.

Installed directx 9c?

Now when i start to think about it, I do run three different sized RAM chips, albeit all are of the same type and speed. And I could be imagining it but the problems with WITP (I also had the same problems there) started when i installed the second chip..

I'm not planning to take them out though.. so if that's the problem then I'm doomed.

specs.

Win 2kpro
Celeron 1700
Geforce 4 MX
Ram - 256+128+64

anything more?

Hmm, its either that or the Geforce 4. I guess just close and restart, its a pain but since the problem is in WitP I don't think there is a way to fix... (I've never seen it though).

restarting witp doesn't help most of the time, I rebooted.. we'll see how it works out.

well the reboot seemed to work. I also installed directx 9c, just to be sure. I don't remember if it was 9b or 9c which was the last that I installed.

i sometimes get that also when i am switching from playing a turn in WitP or WPO to
surfing 3 or 4 websites
working in adobe illustrator
working in adobe photoshop
checking email
playing spider
reading a word doc
listening to music

but then maybe i just have too much stuff open at once (ummmm?)

seriously i do have all that stuff open and sometimes it takes a couple of seconds for the map to come up and, occassionally, i need to close the game and a couple of programs.

This happens to me when I Alt-Tab out of Witp or WPO and then go back into it.

I am pretty sure it is a video card issue

Yup, that's what does it on mine, or if I use windowed mode and do something like resize the screen manually.
