Compatability

Hey folks,

I'm sure this has probably been answered somewhere in here, but I cant seem to find it. So, if anyone knows really quick off the top of their head (or if you can point me to a FAQ or somesuch):

Can Scenarios from the original CoW Edition be loaded by the Matrix Edition? I have a huge scenario (OpArt300) that I have been piddling around with on and off for years and would love to be able to continue under the upcoming edition. Will this be possible?

Thanks in advance!

@Uncle Joe;

Unless you know something the rest of the community doesn't, the Matrix Edition is still quite a ways out from publication, eh?

One only wishes that ToaW: ME was available, no lie!

Trust me, I'm more sorry about this than I can say!

My understanding (though naturally all this is unconfirmed) is that it will be possible to import scenarios to the Matrix Edition from Century of Warfare just as it was possible to import from Volume I to Century of Warfare.

Since the principle strength of TOAW is the breadth of scenarios available, Matrix would be rather shooting themselves in the foot not to implement such a feature. They will certainly be writing a utility to make this kind of conversion, as it's no secret that some scenarios made on COW will be included in the new release.

All this being said, an increasing number of new scenarios- often the better ones- require the use of a modified executable created with the BioEd. It seems all too possible that, since this depends on the actual .exe file (the 1.04 COW .exe had to be cracked afresh when that was released), the Matrix edition won't be able to use modified databases, graphics etc. Could be wrong, though.

My understanding is the first ME publication will be nothing more than 1.04 plus all the bug fixes and maybe some minor improvements. In that case all standard existing scenarios will work fine without any kind of conversion. Improvements made over time will likely include backward compatibility. I don't believe they'll change the engine. But, of course, everyone will have the option of upgrading or not. Or having two installs, one original and one with improvements.

Awesome. Thanks guys. I'm looking forward to the Matrix Edition, but I didnt want to lose a lot of work on a mega-scenario.

Thanks again!

Yeah. Just that because any changes will mean recompiling the .exe, by definition one won't be able to play this version with modified .exes.
