The Strafe Routine

Forgive me for being a late arrival.

I have only one real question.

Do you intend to make the strafe mission realistic?

In Talonsoft's rendition the strafe routine is a humorless joke.

In BOB the Germans are foolish to strafe because they do little damage and chew up their fighters.
In BTR the AI uses the strafe missions as an unstoppable kludge, that ignores the actual flak at the target
and allows sixteen Spitfire to destroy 50+ FW190 on the ground, somehow killing the pilots as well.

So? Will this issue be addressed?

BTW Hi JC

Howdy
what verison of the games are you playing ?

I know one of the patches for BoB tried to fix the hassle of damage to Brit planes on the ground

this shot is from my game I was writting about, the losses on the ground are from the last two days

for BTR, I think what you are seeing is the AI "cheat" kicking in, Sweeps by the AI do much more damage then if the Player plots it

I say all the cheats should be removed from the game, others say the AI needs the help and more cheats should be added

the combat routine in both games are being looked at

for me, and I am known as one of the masters of the Strafe, there are only 2 fields that the human player has a chance to get anywhere near 50 kills and that is on the first day, and with FG's as the strafers (range of the P-40 was changed last OOB, so one of those fields can not be reached now)

I am unsure now. I uninstalled the game after the AI used the cheat to blitz my forward airfield.

Then I went in and maxxed out the flak at each base, to make sure what I was seeing was an AI cheat.

It certainly was. It ignored that flak, and pounded the airbase.

What good does it do, to carefully nurture your production, build up a reserve, exchange plane types and deploy.

Just to see a cheat destroy your efforts.

The allies didnt beat me, a cheat beat me.

Roger, I agree with the Cheat side

but in BTR, you also need to back up some, anything close to England, should be dead(and most likely will be)

if you want to reinstall the games, look for patch 1.02 for BoB and 106x5 for BTR

hopefully JC will have them up on the BTR forum soon

Hi Sardonic,

as much as the AI may cheat in this way, it is also rather predictable. It flies straight line paths to it's objectives, so you can actually see them coming. This means that if you are fuelled up, you can take off, and fly somewhere safe.

This applies to both BTR and BoB.

HS, should we have a seperate thread on AI cheats for discussion on those we will put up with and those we loathe ?

if you wish
I am open to starting any posts for debate that we want

I do not care if we need to help the AI do things, set up it's production and stuff

what I do not like or want is the combat cheats, like in BoB, 30 bombers can blow a AF apart for the AI, but 200 human controlled bombers will do 20-30% or less most times

I'm with Sarge. I don't want an AI that cheats (like it seems to at present) but what I would like to see is a more capable AI that is able to compete with a human player (without cheating) so that it is more challenging. As others have said it is rather predictable at present.
