How much of the work on TOAW is new? Has the engine been changed or modified? I was a huge fan of TOAW, but, while it was well ahead of it's time when it came out, its simple straight-line combat tables are a little dated. (then again, I'd take the old TOAW over the "Decisive Battles")

TOAW doesn't use combat tables. Combat is worked on at the level of individual items of equipment.

Picky, picky. [;)]
I said it wrong then. My bad.
What I meant was straight line combat results, as in all attack factors being added together to achieve unrealistic results. It's been too long since I played for me to come up with individual instances. Like a large body of 1 point Antitank units taking out an M1A1 Abrams due to adding up their firepower (that was only a vague example, don't take it too literally)

[:)] It doesn't do that either. Individual peices fire individual shots, with the exception of artillery.

It used to work that way, but the game has since been re-written (I think when Century of Warfare was released). Now in order to successful destroy an armoured target, an AT weapon must have at least half as much AT strength as the defending targets armour.

Sounds like my major gripe about the game is already solved. That's great! Still, there are other areas that could be improved. I wonder how much will be changed.

ps. Also, this may be a pipedream, but I always wanted to be able to modify the stats for the individual units in the database.

This option already exists.

Toaw 2 (korea-now) I think. The briefly released woty edition backported the new combat resolution to the original (ww2) game. acow bundled it all into a single package and added ww1 scens as well.

We're three for three, here. Must be blowing the poor guy's mind.
For bstarr's benefit, the equipment editting utility is available here:

It gets worse (for me, anyway) - after I got offline last night it dawned on me that I had purchased the game twice and the second time I bought it the initial problem I mentioned had already been solved. Doh!
Oh well, I'm a good sport. I'll admit when I've tasted my own foot. [:D]
