I just noticed something strange...

Jutland scenario: CV Hosho is docked (disbanded) at Manila, onboard she has a squadron of 1MF2 with 13 aircraft.

I "upgraded" (well, it's not a real upgrade) a land-based 1MF2 squadron to Sopwith Pup, the replacement pool shows correctly 17 (15 + 2 currently produced) 1MF2 as available and -15 as 1MF2 used.

After some turns I checked again the CV and noticed that she had only 9 1MF2 (no op. losses, and still 13 pilots on that squadron). Checked the replacement pool: 6 1MF2 available, -2 used.

Don't know if these are 2 related problems or 2 different ones BTW, summarizing:
- A squadron lost 4 aircraft
- 15 planes vanished from reinforcement pool

Not a bug (I don't think). Hosho starts with the 1MF1 (not the 2). She could have upgraded to the 1MF2, sucking out the 15 planes.

Yeah, that makes since now as I think about it. You have -15 1MF2s, then 13 go to Hosho (as she chucks her 1MF1s). -15 + 13 = -2 used.

I forgot to say before that the 9 remaining aircraft became all damaged, and the maximum number of planes changed too from 13 to 9!

I don't think this is a bug, I think Hosho just upgraded her 1MF1s for 1MF2s, but I need to make sure.

BTW the squadron maxiimum size really changed (If I'm still worng I should go to a mental hospital!)

Not swearing ot this, but I'll bet it resized the unit because with the land based torpedo bombers aboard, it was 2 over the limit (could still fly them off, but over the limit). I'm going to upgrade both with and without the land based bombers, see if I can duplicate it. I bet if they upgraded while in the limit, they wouldn't have resized.

I thought it was allowed for CV to carry up to 10% more planes than their capacity...

Anytime. Carriers can fly planes at 115% capacity. Just trying to find why it resized... never had that happen before. Still checking, but it may be tomorrow before I find out what happened.

The CV starts off with two groups on board.
If you transfer another group (like torpedo bomber), it does re-size the group sizes.
At first I thought it might be applying the 1/3 rule, but I can't see what rule is using for a breakdown.

Max size of my groups is now: Fighter (9), Recon (3), and Torpedo (15).
Only problem is the other two groups have 13 planes, so excess in reserve. But this puts total over 115%.

This is a typical problem in WITP with carrier groups when you start putting groups on CV which don't originally belong there.

Not sure, if groups re-size when excess group removed. Will experiment.

I looked at his save. He has the 13 plane fighter, and a 15 plane land bomber. This is 28 planes with 26 capacity. so, when it upgrades, it now has 9 fighter, and 15 bomber, or 24 planes at 26 capacity.

Maybe it is trying to apply some 1/3 rule to the naval groups only- 1/3 of 26 would be 9.

Can't seem to get them to go back to original size.

I retried the above:
1. Transferred the Recon group off the CV first.
2. Transferred the Torpedo group onto CV [still below 115% capacity]

3. Upgraded Fighter group on CV.
4. Ran 3 days.

Fighter group stayed at size 13.

So solution is to make room on CV first before transferring.
However, I don't know what happens if groups are forced to land on CV due to emergency landings. Similiar to original problem may occur.
