The game will routinely crash to disk under some circumstances (at least with some machines).

The easiest way (for me) to do this is to go to the Intelligence screen, look at ships available, sort by arrival date, then hit the BACK button. It will crash to disk about 90-95% of the time. This doesn't happen for everyone.

Under what circumstances are your games crashing? When you are watching replays? Entering orders? Checking intel screens?

A couple of things to try: i found in the past that things running in the background could drastically increase the chance of a Crash to Disk (CTD).

Make sure you have ONLY ESSENTIAL programs running in the background.

Also, just to try to isolate the problem - trying turning ANIMATIONS OFF to see if this helps.

I try this, and nothing.
I only have ATI control panel active (i desactive antivirus and others programs), and put animations in OFF, but notthing happen, the game crash again.

Hmm - i am not a real computer expert. Perhaps someone else can jump in here?

Athlon 1.2
256 Mb Ram
Radeon 9200 SE-DT

and Witp started to freeze after some 2 weeks of gaming... don't sure why but to this time after some time it freezez the screen goes black and i get an error message... im planing on buying some extra RAM this christmas[:D] any Way i got a friend Working in Panda Software and i asked him why WitP freezes amd Fifa 2006 and Call of Duty 2 are working maybe not on the highest details bout with nice 3D graphics and such...
He told me that this game code must be somewhat home made amature stuff and that's why this game freezes and crashes and he told me that CoD 2 and Fifa codes are first class profesional work and do not couse system crashes even when your machine is not state of the Art... like my...

Don't think that is the problem, as i think MOST people play under XP. If you had Win 98, that could explain it (but you don't).

Try renaming the Sound directory to NoSound and see if the crashes end. If so, then it is a sound driver and/or CODEX problem.

Just a thought - try a fresh reinstall. Do you have the CD, or did you download the program? There may be a fatal corruption in the download file if that is what you are using. Also, be sure to install the original game, then comprehensive patch 1.30 (not the smaller 16 mB version), then patch 1.40, then patch 1.50, then patch 1.60. After installing each patch, start the game, load a scenario, let it run a turn or two, then close the program and install the next patch.

I hope this helps.

Support team? All volunteer force here, i think.

Did you check out the "stickied" thread "If you have updated to 1.20 and are still having sound issues"?:
fb.asp?m=674415

It may give you some hints to try.
