Fatal Error 818

After installing Patches 130 thru 160, I get "Fatal Error 818" and the game stops loading. I click on "OK" and the game returns to the Windows desktop.
Anybody experience this problem, or have a fix?

Doesn't ring a bell at all ... have you completely deleted the install and tried again. Are you installing as Administrator type ID that has permissions?

818...might that be sound card issue ? Try to launch WitP with -nosound in shortcut.

Try to launch WitP with -nosound in shortcut.
No command switch for that ... just open up the War in the Pacific folder and rename the Sound folder to anything else. (ie: Nosound)

Ah ! I do have vague memory that 818 was somehow related to soundcard problems. And it seems that many CTDs and lock-ups are related to soundcard too. At least renaming the Sound folder will definitely tell that if game starts to work.
