Missing Submachine Gun Sound

I'm playing with British Commandos and noticed there's no sound when they fired their 9mm Sten Mk5s's. Maybe this has been mentioned before but I've only noticed it in ver.7.

I've also noticed that the M3 sub-MG sounds like a rifle in v7.

In the 6.1 version the sound was like the sledge movement sound.

Were they firing at an enemy unit in an adjacent hex? Sometimes weapon sounds will not play when shooting at adjacent hexes; or you'll only hear ricochet/hit sounds if they strike.
But since the Sten uses a unique sound file there could be a corrupted file or the OOB has the wrong sound file number in it.

I believe this weapon has a range of 2-4 hexes and there is no sound no matter the range of the target.

The OOB has sound #990 for this Sten. There is no sound 990, though. I changed the sound to 585, the sound for the other Sten.
I don't know what the problem is with the M3 SMG. It has #0 for the sound, so I assume this is a default sound. I haven't tried changing it.

Curious! I just tested it. There is no sound when firing with the F key (and only that gun by using C).
If you use the z key to fire into a hex there is a sound!

That's because the 9mm Sten Mark 5s's are silenced weapons, the s on the end of the weapon description indicates that this is the standard Sten Mark 5 with a silencer. You'll notice that the same sound is used for
1. The Japanese - Bamboo Spear
2. The Phillipine - Bolo
3. The Phillipine - Bow and Arrow
4. The Ghurka (in the Indian OOB) - Kukri
By the Way, using the 'z' key produces a sound for all weapons.

I learn something new about the game. Happens all the time, even after playing constantly for 18 months. <img src="biggrin.gif" border="0">
