Reserve / Support Task??

Hi all,

Have been playing lots of HTTR lately & have read everything I can find on COTA. Can't help but notice that there is no way to designate tactical / operational reserve tasks. Since the AI does such a good job of handling many things its a pity that I can't designate a force to a reserve/support role for another force. Sort of a march to the sound of the guns or if force "A" is attacked then reinforce and/or counter-attack sort of thing (maybe based on leadership & staff quality)...... stuff that I'm (attempting) to do manually now.
Anybody else feel the same way??? Maybe a wishlist item?? [&o]
Still love the system though!!

Rob.

Happy New Year Everyone!!!! [:)]

Rob,

More options for reserves have been on the wish list for some time.

TT2186 - AI - Reserves - Create peripheral reserve task in planning and commit during reasessment
TT2755 - UI - Reserves - Allow user to order reserves without forcing their superior to replan
TT2756 - UI - Reserves - Allow user to specify % of force to keep as reserve for a given Task

While the third one above would go some way to what you want I'm not sure it would be a good thing to specify the exact unit composition of the reserve. Once committed they would then not have a reserve. Better to allow it to reform a reserve. Maybe checkboxes to favour motorised units/armour/AT etc would suffice.

Hi,

As always thanks for the quick response....... but I realize I was less than clear in the wording of my suggestion. What I actually meant was a reserve/support order that I could issue to 2nd battalion in its entirety to form a ready reserve & maybe reinforce or counterattack on its own in the event my lines were breached etc. I'm finding this difficult to manually manage effectively in the large scenarios. Since the AI does a pretty good job of running forces in general I thought something along this line would ease the burden so to speak.
BTW, I like all of the options above, with my preferences matching the order listed.
Thanks.

Thr trick for committing reserves during reassessments is to model what the military call "triggers", which are used to alert you to an event that you should respond to - eg. You identify an area on the map ( Named Area of Interest ), assign it a name/ID, specify a condition like if enemy occupied, and set a time constraint and associate it with a given task. We would need to add in a user interface ( UI ) to alloow the player to place and set these triggers. Once we had these we could then write code that wouyld commit the reserve when the trigger fires. All good stuff for the future.[:)]
