A number of my divisions were toggled "forage", their corps and army likewise, with a depot within range. Some foraged but most used the depot and I paid for it. Why?

This was a bug in early versions of the game which I thought we'd fixed. Are you using the most recent patch? If so, I'll look into it again.

I purchased the game the week before Christmas and promptly downloaded the patch from the main patch board. I have not downloaded anything from the member patch. Would this help?

I just bought the game and downloaded two patches. There is the v1.10 in the official patch area. Then there is also the Beta v1.2.17 patch which is in the members only section. You will have to register your game and open a members account to access the beta.

what how you set your troops, if set to forage, that is what they will do now, before, if a depot was in range, they would try for supply from there first, and then forage afterward, now if ordered to forage, that is what they will do
