Terrible tutorials - do you care about newbies?

As a brand new player to this type of game, I went straight to the tutorials, only to find red help lines were missing, which (as I had no idea what to do next) caused me to not be able to complete the tutorial. I've come here, and found that the problem was recognised back in Feb 05?????????

From a post in Jan 06 , it appears the problem is still here?

Can someone please provide a complete walk through of where the red lines should be. Please dont ask for screen prints. I have already wasted enough time trying to learn the game without the tutorial, and its hopeless. Good money was spent on this game. The least that newbies deserve is a good working tutorial, which you would have fixed by now if you really cared for new players.

Sorry for your problem. Several fixes were made for the red lines in the tutorial. I don't remember all the history, but I do know that at one point it appeared that some ATI cards on some systems had problems with the red lines. I'm pretty sure before the international version came out the problem was limited to only some systems. Keith (the programmer) tried to make a fix for this, and it appears that his fix for this didn't work, and may have caused additional problems. Recently we became aware of the fact that the international version that shipped had problems with the red lines in the tutorial (it shipped sometime between October and December in various countries in Europe). After looking into this further, Keith has recently made another fix that he thinks should fix the problem in all cases. This version is in testing now. We are working on a major 2.0 patch that among other things will merge the international and US versions and make it easier for us to fix things for everyone. We're working hard on trying to get this version ready to be posted as a public beta and then soon after as an official release.

Do you have the international version (with multiple language support), or if not, what version number of the game are you using. Do you have an ATI card? Because the current patch involves much more than just an exe change, it may be hard for us to get you a test version, but depending on your answers we'll see what we can do.

By the way, when you say the problem was recognized in Feb 05, that would be pre release (which was in late March). I will say that there was a time before the international version where as far as I know the tutorial was working for the vast majority of users and issues were limited to just a few users. In any event, we are working on trying to fix this once and for all.
