My in game sound is quite scratchy and I have NO VOX at all. Is it even in there? I see a menu section for in game VOX bt I've yet to hear it. Most recently the sound got quite scratchy and finally just went out. Quite the buzzkill. I'm running the Soundblaster Audigy Gamer Heres the rest of my specs:
Athlon 64 3500+
Radeon X800XL PCI-E
768 MB RAM
Running in 1024 32 bit

Off-topic: If I convert some m3s to OGGs and rename them track1, track2, etc. and put them in the sound folder can I listen to my own music? No offense but the stock music is kinda weak for the intense star battles I engage in. [8D]

Just bought the game today and was having problem with the sound too. The music would stutter and the sounds wouldnt play without skittering or cutting out. So I thought I would use dxdiag to lower the acceleration, but actually found something quite strange. I ran 'dxdiag' from the command line and started up Starshatter, my audio problems were fixed, without touching the acceleration settings! Seems just having the direct x diagnostic tool open while running the game solves my problem. Dont know if you already solved your sound problems out, but if not, it worth giving my solution a try.

wow, ijust did that and it worked! before, the audio tracks would do mini loops (i.e. it wouddl repeat a phrase 2-3 times before continuing. with the dxdiag program open it (the audio) worked ok. i tried it again, without the dxdiag tool open, and the problems were there again.

hopefully this helps troubleshoot this problem.

Yes, absolutely. You don't need to rename them - the game will play whatever files it finds in the music folders in random order. If you want the tracks to play in a specific order, then just make sure the track name starts with a number (e.g. "01-Intro.ogg", "02-Battle.ogg").

I am experiencing the same sound issues, ie music tracks skipping, voice tracks repeating and overlapping. I was wondering if any more light has been shed on this issue. Opening the dxdiag helps for the most part, but I was hoping for some word from the devs on this.

Just updated to the latest Audigy 2 driver 5.12.0001.1196. Unfortunately no improvement with sound issues. [:(]

I didnt take the steps required to confirm that this fixed anything, but do you have any debug directx drivers? Go into dxdiag and list the dxfiles, then check for any files with *d.dll on the end, chances are its a debug file. I had 2, d3d8d.dll and d3d9d.dll. At the same time as removing I also updated the drivers, im also using an audigy2, and the sound is alot more reliable than before.

Thanks for the help onegoodman. I do not seem to have any *d.dll files in my dxdiag. I have d3d8.dll and d3d9.dll but they lack the extra d. My sound works fairly well with the dxdiag open while playing, so for now I will go with what works. I just hope a patch will resolve the necessity of having to run the diag in the background.
