Phantom counterbattery fire

In my campaign against the AI, I've got six 25-pounder field guns as an onboard battery. In my latest battle, at the start of each turn, two of the guns, different ones each turn, have 80+ supression and are marked with the # symbol. No one has shot at them, and adjacent guns have zero supression.

All I can think of is "Huh?"

That's weird. I have sometimes noticed similar phenomenon with bicycle infantry (They were still around in version 8.0 and not afterwards). It seems that the UFO department may handle this case.

I've seen this before, too...the only explanation that has ever made sense was that these units have failed one of the many 'checks' made for each unit so badly that they have become 'suppressed' due to the resulting panic/fear/chaos.

I've had this happen recently with a tank unit. Very rare, but utterly baffling and no explanation.

I wrote it off to the crews being frightened by the booming of the next gun over. Maybe as a cost-cutting measure, the War Office formed the Royal Papuan Artillery Corps from the interior of New Guinea and slipped me a couple of gun crews without my noticing it
