Designated as a knee motar by the Marines

But it wasn't a mortar.

In fact, I believe a few GI's and Marines found that out the hard way...

The Japanese called it Juteki

Model 1189 Heavy grenade discharger, it fired a model 91 fragmantation grenade.

I believe the full Japanese full designation was "Hachikyu Shiki Jutekdarto"

"Hachikyu Shiki Jutekdarto" which translates into "Pain in the knee if used stupidly by foolish Americans."

FYI spelling is a bit wrong on the Japanese. Jutekdarto cannot be spellt that way. All consonant sounds (except for n and m) must followed by a vowel.

Hachikyushiki = Type 89
Jutekidanto = Heavy Grenade Launcher
