Ship Slot #

I need to add 11 CVEs to my database but can't add them underneath the other CVEs so is there any problem if I add them in slots 4981 through 4991?

Yes, Carriers must be in the first 140 slots (I think), or else they do not work properly. I forget the slots offhand, but in the very early stages of WPO I had the carriers in low slots, and their airgroups would not fly and they were useless.

Thanks ... I guess the US is going to be shorted 11 CVEs (surprise surprise). I really can't believe they coded this game to have items hardcoded to specific slot ranges ... poor.

How Do Other People Add Carriers?

If the above is true, how do other people add carriers to their scenarios if there isn't space in the first 140 slots?

Move some of the non-carriers out of those slots, and move your carriers into them. Use the Paste command. If carriers actually are the only type that need to be in specific slots (and they probably aren't) then that should work.

Well, according to the scenario file I'm using there's allied carriers (CV, CVL and CVEs) in slots 3000 through 3142. I have 7 blank slots under my US fleet carriers but if I ever want to expand my scenario to include "possible" CVs instead of ones from my source I'd have no where to put them.

The 11 CVE's however ARE in my source but not in the WITP database though ...

The two carriers that are above the 140 "limit" are the British CVEs Speaker and Trouncer (which the game doesn't have arriving until 1945-08-15).

I assume you're modding scenario 15? In my copy, there's 16 blank and potentially blank slots in the 3000-3140 range, but I seem to remember you saying somewhere that you were working from a 1.0 db?

Yes. I started making changes to it for the game I started back in February 2005 and have been making modifications ('tweaks') as I go so I'm sort of stuck with this one. Plus when I start my new game over I'm going to start it under 1.3 since I'm staying clear of 1.795.

I'm "hoping" that there aren't any specific slot numbers to add other ships like destroyers, destroyer escorts, etc?

That's correct. The only "reserved" slots are for aircraft carriers.

And as to the 140 limit, it may not be exact, those are just the slots I know work.

I'll hold off on adding my 11 CVEs. I have plenty of smallboys, subs and auxiliaries to work on for the time being.

And I don't know about your little quote:
Submarines are safer than aircraft. The proof is that there are more airplanes in the water than submarines in the sky.

Aircraft have to come back down (law of gravity). Subs don't necessarily HAVE to come back up.
