On turn 1 putting the battleships at Pearl into a TF hoping he'd not set to naval attack (result - five sunk battleships)

I set my turn 1 CV tf to full speed but left it on retirement allowed. It hit Wake good, then ran full speed into range of KB.

DOH!

-It was funny, wasn´t it, meanwhile your enemy (me...) grounded all Zeros and so I had neither CAP not escort for my bombers. Your CV and more two CA´s were lost (as 18 Buffalos couldn´t do too much against them...) but I had moderate damage (24) to Zuikaku and light damage (15-20) to Hiryu and Shokaku....KB immobilized for two months....

In my first and only game so far, I was concurrantly reading Pzb vs. Wobbly and playing against the AI so I pulled everything back to India without a fight. Silly me, the AI ain't gonna come get you.

Attack the USSR - apparently it releases numerous Soviet corps [infantry and armoured] that the rules fail to tell you about.[X(] I wonder if these units have been originally slated for the 8/45 activition [if so could this be a flaw]?[&:]

In any event, since the rules don't forewarn of this major consequence stay away[:-]

Included a mine-laying TF in an invasion. Had two APs full of troops hit my own mines on the same turn they were placed.

Going for that tiny TF with one CVL and some CAs in the middle of the pacific.
Problems: PBEM, I was Allied, it was 3/42, there were 6 CVs in the TF.
Had 3 Essex-CV very early in the game as a resukt of that encounter. Lost most of SoPac due to non-competative allied navy in 42.

Allied aircraft losses
F4F-3 Wildcat: 3 destroyed, 1 damaged
F4F-4 Wildcat: 5 destroyed

Hello...

Long time ago. At the very start of the war, ordered BB Prince of Wales and BC Repulse, along with three DD to go down to Khota Bharu and stir up some trouble. Had spotted some ships unloading there. Instructed 2 Buffalo squadrons to provide long range air cover. One DD torpedoed on the way in. Surprised by 2 Japanese BB and some cruisers. Got knocked snotless. Next day on way back, many planes from Saigon attacked. Sad.

Bye...

Mike, you only did what the Brits did IRL, except that you co-ordinated your fighter cover. There's nothing to say that would not have happened if Force Z had reached the invasion convoys.

In my games (starts) against the AI, I have always (except once) sent Force Z to intercept the invasion fleets. IMO, this is why they were there. Sometimes I have lost one or more ships in this move, sometimes they have gotten off scot free. Once the Haruna had the dreaded "magazine explosion"...
