possible cure for problems running RFTS

Hey Folks,

I appear to have accidentally discovered the source of the problem I had running RFTS.

Some time ago, I installed Total Recorder on my computer. It seems that Total Recorder, on installation, takes over certain tasks previously handled by the sound card.

Recently, I had trouble performing some task on my computer, and troubleshooting uncovered the fact that sound mixing was being done by Total Recorder. I changed this, so that my sound card was once again performing sound mixing.

Subsequently, I started RFTS without going thru the usual rigamarole I typically had to endure in order to get it to run. RFTS ran fine, and I even have sound now!

Since then, I've played RFTS quite a bit. It's crashed on me once or twice--and I think I was responsible for one of those crashes--but, otherwise, it's been running just fine. Most of the time, I've set the turn limit at 120, but once I had it at 160 and I was able to play thru to a conclusion without any trouble.

So, I would suggest that anyone who has Total Recorder installed on their computer and is experiencing problems with RFTS should transfer the control of sound back to their sound card, or just uninstall Total Recorder entirely. If you don't have TR, this may still give you a hint about how to resolve problems running RFTS. I've definitely enjoyed being able to play it again without any hassles.
