Thinking about an unusual game

Here's what I'd like to consider-

Begin the game as Campaign '41 but neither side may make a single offensive move until the first week in April of 1942. You can change production, reorganize units, train, etc. as you like until that week.

It would just be a bit interesting to see the slugfest that results. If anyone is interested in trying, I am happy to play the Germans which, I assume would be at a serious disadvantage in this scenario.

you might be interested in this similer previous attempt using possum - although i don't think it went very far you might see some house rules in there to smooth out the game more if someone accepts your challenge!

Interesting reading. I am not familiar with the scenario editor, but would it be possible to "turn off" the western and southern fronts to reflect either a negotiated peace or a total victory in the west and then perhaps that would allow for a more even contest in the east between two collussus?

it lets you edit certain variables you may be interested in.

I'm not familiar with the wirhack program. Is there a thread someplace that might give me the basics of its usse?

just put it into your WiR directory and run it - it's very straight forward when you see it. you only need the wirhack program itself - the other files are scenario files and not needed.

Thanks Flanker. I am having trouble seeing how to "turn off" the allied advances on the western and southern fronts. What am I missing?

Yep, that one's perfect. Ok, now all I need is a game.

I enjoyed playing this game very much but tom1939 had some real life issues that needed attending and we had to stop this game. I would of loved to see how it would of panned out.

Kingtiger,

If you would like a game as described, let me know and I will gladly play either side.

Why dont you try a scenario called TO THE DEATH. Basically it goes alon the lines of wir 3.2 with the concept that Britian and the italian fronts are gone as the germans have won in the west leaving germany and russia to slog it out in one titanic battle. Germany does start out with slightly less tanks though to compensate for the win in the west.If you like I can send you a copy if you wish .[8|]

Thanks Loveman, Elefantinho and I have a mirrored game that we have begun that is very much along the lines of this scenario although slightly altered.

Thanks Loveman, Elefantinho and I have a mirrored game that we have begun that is very much along the lines of this scenario although slightly altered.
What we basically did is taking the plain 3.3 version and:
  • Disable West and Italian Fronts, USAAF, partisans and automatic reinforcements during battle.
  • Change the allegiance of cities in the Ukraine to German.
  • Change some leadershop ratings and put Zhukov in charge of STAVKA.
  • Rename three Axis minor ally's armies to German AG South East, 8th and 12th Army.
  • Convert some German infantry divisions to be motorized à la Possum.
  • Change the upgrade paths of some equipement, e.g. to avoid automatic upgrades to He-177, Elefant and from Il-4 to Tu-2.
  • Use a slightly changed map now including a railway linking Sevastopol to the Caucasus and a railway north of Lake Ladoga.
  • Play only with three house rules: no mules, no Russian "super" HQs, no attack on VVS bases close to the edge of the map.
  • Have a truce until April 1942.
I have not clue how this will work out and haven't made up my mind where as Soviets I will defend. For sure we post some screenshots as soon as the battle begins.
