Best russian tank "bang for the buck"

Looking to start another campaign again tonight, after my brutal destruction last time and I wonder what the best russian tanks are for the lowest cost. In other words, I want the best deal. Better to have a few kick ass tanks or more lower quality ones?
Any other "deals" I should be aware of?
Thanks

Why not more & better? I wanted a large enough core force to make up an all-arms kampfgruppe but could not afford it. So, I simply backed up the mob70 file, set the permissions to write to it, used the editor to set tank, etc. costs to 1, bought my initial force, saved the game, restored the mob70 file then played on.

What year? If you can have T-34's buy them

Also the KV-1 is a regular monster early in the war. Don't bother with the T-26/BT-series , unless they are all you can get...
I can't spot any particulary good 'deals' from the Soviet oob, but as you are going against tanks with better accuracy maybe you should get the most thick-skinned vehicles?
If you decide to use light tanks for recon, note that T-40b and T-60 tanks carry some APCR ammo and they are available early.

Larry, you do realize that those unit's costs will be saved now at 1 point in the game. OOB modifications save only when bought. So though the costs were reset, the units you purchased will be read as having cost 1 point, so the enemy point calculations will be VERY weak. However, as battles go on, you can "buy" the same exact piece of equipment at the normal cost, and that will give the AI its "correct" point values. I remember learning that the hard way in SPWW2, when my battalion sized unit was opposed by a few tanks and infantry.

I haven't had the chance to try this in W@W yet but in the other SP games the Russian flame tanks were very useful and have a gun besides. I recall one point in the time line where they were about the only thing to take on the Tigers, at least with my style of playing.

T34's. I used a load of captured ones once in SPWW2 when the Germans and did very well indeed. Cheap and effective.

Only Army intelligence would come up with that one, Larry

Yes, I should have specified more clearly that I also buy enough normal cost units to spend my full points and not skew the results. It can be hard juggling full and reduced cost units to spend all my points so one way to easily do this is to see how may points I have left, adjust the cost for one unit to this (1200pts for a PzKw IIa anyone?) and buy it. Since I quickly upgrade my tanks this isn't a long term problem throughout the campaign
