Devices and weight

I discovered (unintentionally) that if you assign any device with a weight of 9999 it will immobilize a land unit. This may be useful sometimes: it is a weight to create a static unit. But it is also a problem when you do not want a static unit. This particular device was a .50 Browning mg!

I reviewed devices and found many inconsistencies. A 5.25 inch gun weighs 4 tons, utter nonsense. A typical 3 inch gun weighs 12 tons. One weighs 20 tons. I have added a weight review to my comprehensive device field review list. This data is not like most - with occasional errors. It is unusually inconsistent - with many errors.

Be careful about devices assigned to para-drop capable units or units capable of being fully transported by air. The weight (or maybe size or maybe both???) affects if a given transport can carry them. I remember reading in some patch notes that a change was made to a particular (anti-tank?) gun to allow it to be carried (as it historically was).

Also, I am not familiar with the database. If there is only a value for weight, then some large objects might be given an incorrectly high weight to reflect the fact that their size also limits what can carry them. Just a thought, I don't know that for certain.

This is a complex subject. Joe and I spend months researching Japanese airborne units - and also I did Japanese transports - including heavy and glider. There is not going to be any problem with airborne in RHS - although since CHS has ultimately decided not to use my planes I guess there might be there. We even put in an airborne armor unit! As for (as it historically was) - I am not sure? There was a plan to drop 12 light tanks when the war prevented its execution. And there were several large drops - but I have not been able to establish a single case where artillery was dropped - even to the extent it existed (which is pretty rare - most units have zero - some have 70 mm battalion guns and some have 75mm mountain guns which are manpacked in 11 loads - but these not until late in the war).
