PBEM Campaigns?

After the epic battle that Afrika Korps and I had, I started thinking about something more ambitious. What if we wanted to play out a whole campaign, with each player having the ability to upgrade between battles?

In other words, we could refight either the whole Pacific USMC vs Japan war, or the Eastern Front, or any two nations opposing each other, with upgrade points being based on the results of the previous battle.

Is this a crazy notion, or something that PBEM players might be interested in, IF it was possible?

Let me expand on this a bit : given the large number of mutually-agreed draws that occur, the stakes would be raised by awarding upgrade points as a percentage of victory points scored at the previous battle's conclusion.

It's a great idea but the game doesn't support it directly, as you know. The way to do it would be to appoint a "referee" who maintains a database of both player's units and then sets the games up using the scenario editor. A lot of work ...

It IS possible! It has already been done but as Captain Cruft said, it requires a lot of external work to plan and controle everything. On the other hand it also requires a great dedication from the players to persevere until the many battles are fought. It's probably wiser to plan a short campaign instead of a full WW2 thing!

I think that there would be a fair amount of interest. I know that personally I play against some opponents very regularly, and a 'to be continued' aspect would be fun.

Perhaps just a simple formula, something along the lines of:

Winning player score (a)

-

Losing player score (b)

= c

c / 100 = number of points that winning player gets to use in their next battle in addition to the 'normal' points allocation.

This would give a small 'bonus' to the winning player, but no so much as to put the losing player at such a disadvantage that they never stand a chance again. It is also fairly simple to administer (doesn't require pre-built scenarios etc).

Thoughts?

I understand that some people have been playing some sort of campaigns with SPWaW. Does someone here know, how to build two-player campaigns with SPWaW??

Of course, this paper and pencil -method can be used...but I was looking for some method that uses SPWaW campaign generator [:'(][:'(]
