Anyone found a use for the Oz squadron of Walruses? They seem to just sit around and take up space.

Their good for flying Aussie surfers to remote locations in the East Indies.

I leave them in Sydney and fly air search. There's usually a fair amount of ship traffic in the area because of the repair yard and I'd want to see any subs lurking around. Lets me keep the longer range search planes up at the front.

I too keep them in Sydney. As much as anything since I don't want them wasting Av support on the frontline [;)]

Seriously, I believe if any British ships that carry these are need of a replacement, these are your only source. That's why their good to have around.

Walrus's are one of two allied float planes that will launch daylight bombing attacks. You can base them at an AV and go after the Japanese. The ship based ones will do the same. This is historically accurate by the way, the Brits were very aggressive with the Walrus.

I do wish all the Walrus squadrons in the Pacific/CBI were represented in game, be nice if the Ansion Units were in game to.

OK, this is probably a really dumb question, but allied AV can't carry planes I thought, or do you mean to base them at an island with an AV?

Hi, Base them at an island with an AV. Japanese AV can't operate unless they are at a base with supply they just get to carry the ac to the new location. It's best to off load them before using them. Japanese CS can operate while underway. There are a number of Japanese AV with a load value of 1. These are best used to support Patrol planes or float planes the only difference is they can't carry a group to the base. (1 float plane is not much use)

I was just doing some basic research on the Walrus and found out that it was made by Supermarine. That makes it kissing cousins with the Spitfire. Who'd of thought that. [:)]

The progenitor of the Spit was also a floatplane ! (Supermarine Racer).

I pull the small groups off their ships and deploy them at exposed forward bases.
Better to risk them than some of the more valuable search groups.

This also places an airfield icon on the base.
I use the in this deception role quite often.[;)]

This is tickling a vague memory I have of reading an article about this. Didn't the RN have plans for the Spitfire early on, but it go defeated by the Navy beuruacracy and they got Fulmars instead. As I recall there were a lot of politics that slowed the arrival of the Spits.

I believe you are correct. Same era as the "one-launch Hurricanes" which would be catapulted from cargo ships before ditching, (for good).

There were actually two or three versions of the Spitfire developed into a float fighter - floatplane->fighter->floatfighter? - but they never saw widespread service.
