Two words: replay value.
A licensed game becomes outdated within a year because names change. Hence the reason why companies make whole new games every year.
MF will be as good of a game 5 years from now as it is today. Try saying that about Madden 2001 now.
Plus there's the customizability of MF, different rules available, etc.

No reason to buy Max FB, if you want a license and everything that goes with it. Max won't have one.
i've never been an either/or guy. If both games are good, and did something i wanted a football game to do, i'd buy both.
But if you're only going to buy one. Wait. See what NFL Head Coach final feature list looks like. Get the info you need from them. Interestingly enough, i haven't seen any new info about what will be in this game or how it will work. But there is a link saying that the game will be released April 4th.

Hopefully, by then Max FB is up and running and you can get the skinny on it. Then you can make your decision.

If history is any indication, that's a distinct possibility. [:D]

NFL Head Coach will be ported from consoles, so it may not have as much depth or be as open as Maximum-Football. Madden Football was killed for league gamers because it became a console arcade game.
I would have been really interested in NFL Head Coach had I not seen the screenshots and found out that it likely will be console crippled. NFL Head Coach could be a good game, but so far, it doesn't look impressive.

Marauders,
What screenshots from NFL Head Coach have you seen. Because so far, i've only seen two.
i keep feeling like i'm missing something. Especially after i snooped around today and saw the announcement/rumour of an April 4th release date. i'm wondering how they are ready to release something that they've never released a full feature list for the game. Or shown any screenshots. i haven't even seen any interviews by developers talking about the game. [&:]

I can't help but think that NFL head coach will have alot of restrictions like Madden does and it will probably just be roster updates and different 2d screens for every new edition and maybe take out 2 features and add a crappy from time to time.

That's about all there is to see. Nothing substantial about head coach and GM gaming is shown. So far, it looks like The Sims coaching expansion more than anything else.

Think in going to buy M-FB.. Can always edit some of the names..
Again.. thanks for the replys

The Sims, yeah that's a good description.
What's weird is that not only has EA Sports not released any info about this game. i haven't many people in forums clamoring for info. Here and other boards that i frequent, there are people constantly talking about MaxFB (both positive and negative) but nothing about Head Coach. No one is demanding any info. No one is demanding any screen shots. No one is demanding a release date.

I do not believe it, EASports is all about the mean green and fluff of Sports Gaming (their terrible play editing FootBall Games are just perfect examples)! Look at how they are making one-Video Game for each: Arena, Street, CFB and NFL and making money. Why would they stop (beyond selling out development of FootBall) when they can sucker their customers into buying it. F.P.S.: F.B.P. '98 was and still is better than any EASports' FootBall Game made. I am not sure, yet, about Maximum FootBall; however, it is not hard to go beyond just fluff.[/font]

I would suspect that many people in this forum still have FBPro available to play. It is still around, but it is dated. It was killed after Vivendi took over Sierra. Vivendi did not want to take on the EA Sports behemoth.
Madden looks good, but it is a console arcade game. EA Sports wonders why the PC sales are so low when the game actually offers less on the PC than on the console versions. If Madden had open files and league creation utilities, as well as an AI that didn't have to cheat to work, it would have been great. But it has been weighed; it has been measured, and it has been found wanting.

1- That's what i meant by not around, it's dated old, no new versions coming out
2- Madden has good a.i AND It's adjustible

If Sierra was never sold I think we would still have Fbpro today.
Vivendi killed off alot of successfull games like Leisure Suit Larry and a much anticipated Lord of the Rings Game that never made it to the shelves. Also a Basketball game that was gonna be like fbpro
