Col. Plotnikov
Time: 1400 hours
Date 12/5/1939
Mission: Advance upon Salmi
Weather: Clear and cold; windy
Terrain, heavily forested; low hills.
Intelligence reports show that the Fins are preparing to counter attack ; cutting off elements of the Red Army near Salmi. I have been ordered to stop them. My force is 5 companies of infantry, and 2 squadrons of calvary.
Recon photos show three hills forward of our position. These would proide a way to look above the vast forest and see the enemy's movement. Thus far, my Cossacks have reached Hills 1 and 3, however no fins have ben seen. Surely they are not so cowardly as to deny me a good fight?
