Is this a bug? Scen 151 +x Map + CHS

I am playing the scen 151 + extended map + chs. I am about 90 days in. Singapore fell 1/25/42. A large group of British units were cutoff at hex 23,49 a jungle hex. They have no supply. It is now 3/11/42. They are still there. The IJ have hit them every turn since 1/25/42 with odds up to 16-1. Is this a bug or can units hold out for days, weeks and months on end with no supply?

The dreaded cut off, out of supply, never surender or die syndrome. some think it is a feature, some think it is a bug. What is your take on it?

I don't know. If it is not a bug then I really have knocked the IJ off their timetable.

This is normal. Units not in a base will not surrender, or at least not so readily. This is can be a real scourge in China where there is huge number of corps and lots of accessible routes. The secret is to funnel them to a base, surround them and then attack them.

If you must funnel them to a non base hex try to choose one with poor defensive characteristics, i.e. clear terrain. With the units you already have holed up you will just have to keep chipping away at them. Without supply and in a malarial hex you should be able to keep the pressure on them without them recovering signifcantly. Just keep rotating your own combat units to keep them fresh and at peak performance. Watch the reported enemy strengths in the combat reports if you keep track of them you can see how fast they weaken.

On the bright side, this hex also becomes a good hex for training pilots. There is nothing like a bit of easy bomb land to get the experence climbing fast. Just remember to set your altitude high to avoid unecessary op losses and not to fly in poor weather

Out of base they take to long to die, in base they surrender immediately and retreat from hex. I would like to see the PacWar days of lose base but stay alive to keep fighting for another week especially if only 2-1 odds.[:D] Not too many bases with an attempted defense fell in a day with complete mop up.

NO, I am playing historical. On the good side I am keeping 3 IJ divisions busy. It is the middle of March and the IJ has yet to finish off Borneo or advance towards the DEI. Batan just fell but Manila and Cayagan still hold out. The ship loss totals are A92 to J90. Like I said I think I have really done a number on the IJ and knocked them off their schedule. Most of the USAFFE squadrons are either sitting in DEI or in Aus. Most of the ships bailed and made it to safe ports. The allies are sitting pretty good right now.

Why is it harder to take out units not in a base with no supply or fort level than it is when they are in a base with supply and a high fort level? It sounds a bit buggy to me.
