An off-hours pic by request.

Going to bed tho, so if you get it in the next 7 minutes, you'll have to wait until morning for confirmation. [;)]

Actually no. The Mutsuki in my pic has 3 kanji's on the side whereas Feinder's has 4.

I'm showing "Kisaragi". Congrats to Treespider!

Caption under my photo says :

A pre-war view of the destroyer Kisaragi, sunk as the result of damage inflicted by two 100-pound bombs dripped by Capt Henry T. Elrod on the morning of 11 December 1941. Out of the crew of 167 men, not one sailor survived.

It's a kind of DD with many torpedoes and depth charges on deck...

I did read on the Wake Island page, that a survivor said that the major explosion occurred amidships (magazine or torps), not aft (which would have been the depth charges).

Dunno.

The most widely accepted (and probable) explanation tho, is that the DCs were hit.

The idea came to me after posting, that probably something explosive was hit and therefor the ship blew up. But my first thought was just "oh what a crap, 2x50kg bombs are enough to blow such a DD out of the water!". [:)]
