Problem with 110?

I went ahead deleted and reinstalled Flashpoint Germany. I then installed the 110 patch; however, when I try to play the game, after I pushing the play game screen I get "error reading panload.sav. Initial Dir:error setting path" ?
I was careful to install the program and patch to the proper drive and path, what could be the problem?[&:]
Thanks, Lew Fisher

You may have to install previous patches first. I am not sure if this is a comprehensive uptated.

Lew,
The 1.10 update is a comprensive update. It will work over any of the earlier versions. If you go to the Flashpoint folders and double click the Flashpoint exe does the game run? When you reinstalled, did the original game run? Is the location of the game different this time around?
Let me know what is going on and we'll work to get you up and running.

I have reinstalled the original version without problem; however, when I install 110 over it gives me the same error (as in my original post). I made sure the path was correct and even re-downloaded V.110 and used it. I have not had any problems patching any other of my Matrix games.[X(]

Lew,
Can you go to the "Flashpoint Germany" folder and double click the "FlashpointGermany.exe" to see if the game will run?
From there we can get a better idea of what is going on.
Thanks.

Yes, after I reinstalled both the original version and then the 1.10 patch and try to execute the program from within the game folder, it still gives me the same error?[&:]

Lew,
Try downloading the 1.10 update again. It almost sounds like a corrupted file. I need to look at code tonight related to another minor problem and I'll see If I kind find any reference to the error being shown.
Thanks for hanging in there. I'd like to get you up and enjoying the updated game.

Lew,
I'll go hunting in the code to see if anything sticks out with respect to this error. As a side question, what kind of anti-virus are you running? What OS are you using? We'll see what we can do to get you going.

I have Charter Cable Broadband, it has its own ant-virus program. I run Windows Home XP.

Hi Lew -
We are poring over this error and trying to figure it out. Can we assume that you start with a completely fresh install, update it to 1.10, start the game, pick a scenario (which one?) and press the Proceed button to advance to the main game screen and the mission briefing? The problem you get is after you press the Proceed button and before the mission briefing appears?
What OS are you using? Is there a network drive involved here? Which previous version of FPG were you using? Did you change any file or directory names after the fact?
Thanks, Rob

Yep, downloaded a fresh copy of v1.0. (uninstalled the old version); downloaded a new copy of v1.10. The new version of v1.0 worked fine, but when I installed the patch I again got the same error. I get the intro okay and the screen to play game. However, when I push that option an initial screen comes on with the picture of Flashpoint with the new version in the lower left corner, it turns black then the error comes up.
This is a home computer running Windows XP, no network and I have never had any problems installing any other Matrix patches (or otherwise).
Besides the uninstall, I have not changed any path or changed any dirctory names.

Hi again, so the sequence is intro movie, splash screen, setup screen, select scenario and proceed, and then crash and back to the black background screen?
Or is it intro movie, splash screen with version number and then crash and back to the black background screen?

OK, I am pretty sure I have found the exact line that starts the problem. I have wrapped it in a Try..Except construct so that it will default to 'c:\' instead of throwing an error the way it does now. Hopefully that will do the trick.
More news on the 1.11 update when I have it and we will be particularly keen to hear from you Lew!
Cheers, Rob

Rob,
Just curious, I have a pretty standard setup, no one else seems to have had a problem installing 110, what is my problem?

I have two ideas at the moment. One is that your virus scanner is somehow unhappy with the update and is somehow interfering with the patch. Another option is that you have something running in the background that is not allowing the game to switch directories. Both are WAG's at this point since the original game runs just fine. You may wish to turn off both your internet and anti-virus (take the net offline first) and then load the patch and try to run to see if it one of those items. If nothing else we can narrow the scope on this bug. Another thought might be drivers. Video mainly and then perhaps directX.
We'll let you know when the 1.11 is ready to post. Sorry for the headache.

You may be right, however, it has never interferred with patching or installation of any othr programs?

Lew,
One thing came up talking with some of the testers. It appears that some of the installers from Matrix will remove certain video codecs (Indeo Codecs) as part of the uninstall. This might be a reason for the early game crash. Worth checking out.
We'll keep you posted if anything else surfaces.
