CHS and RHS Release Date (Estimate)

Andrew and I have tentatively agreed to release CHS and RHS together.
He has estimated CHS will be ready for release in about one month -
let us say about April 15. Both of us are working on completing current plans and tieing up loose ends.

I expect to have complete scenarios for testing before release and I need some test campaigns to insure no critical issues exist - if anyone is into high risk playtesting - and wants a peek ahead of time at how things are shaping up.

Both CHS and RHS will use the new version of Andrew's extended map (and CHS presumably also will use the non extended map). But RHS may have a slightly modified version of the map. One change I expected was in China (entirely lacking in mountains in a vast area that has them) - but Andrew is NOW (typo in the original) looking at China again - and if he revises it we may end up just adopting that. The other change I am working out is with respect to indicating where ferry service exists - looks like we may have high capacity and low capacity ferry symbols. But changes need playtesting to insure the effects are as intended.

Couldn't a ferry service be shut down by the presence of warships? Now granted it would be fully functional after the warship left or wasn't present assuming the ferries weren't sunk.

You do not understand: I cannot write code. It is not an option even to think about this. It is exactly the same as a bridge - even the Great Bridge at Nanking is immune to demolition, bombing and shelling! But for ferry service, try this: the presence of a Ferry symbol means CONDITIONS are present permitting MILITARY small craft to be used. Also, "a" warship cannot patrol 120 miles of coastline effectively, in fog, at night, etc. Some things are below the scale we can deal with: it is better to have a bridge or a ferry where it existed than not: it is generally true and only exceptionally false. If you don't like it, take one hex or the other and prevent the enemy from crossing.

Shame...
As a feckless youth,(totally without feck[;)]) I read Ted Lawson's war classic "Thirty seconds over Tokyo", and as I recall, his crew was into the mountains basically as soon as they got off the beach where they had crash landed.
The book was rife with accounts of being "in the mountains" from there nearly all the way to Chungking.

Andrew has set new standards with all of his maps. I am surprised he would leave out this feature?

AB has these and others that I provided him with this current iteration of China. I have lobbied AB to make additional changes in China but AB is a purist of sorts. He can explain... What he did do however is utilize forest hexes to "simulate" the rough terrain of SE China. Perhaps not enough to everyone's tastes.

here is a sample of what he has...Each tick mark is roughly ten miles

I think El Cid's quote is a misprint. I told him that I WAS still looking at China. However I don't have time to consider more map work right now - too many other things to do.

Regarding mountains: When I drew my map, I made everything above 3,000m a mountain, and used "forest" to represent rough/mountainous terrain below that height. Perhaps there should be more such terrain in Eastern China on my map...

I have also been thinking whether there is a better way to represent rough terrain, and may make changes to my map accordingly.

A typo transformed "now" into "not"

Andrew IS looking at this

Yes you did - and yes you are correct - it is a one letter typo

and I am sorry

and I corrected it where it appeared originally

and I replied where it was quoted.

Finally, I have got some really fine help on art (not something I can do software wise) -

and I WILL change some of the terrain in China this time for RHS - and I will release a modified version of the map. I expect to release the map and files to testers about 1 March - to find bugs. I need more time to get it all right - so more next time - but SE China will have mountains. I can now do the data files, and Cobra has already done a tentative interpretation of them in art. Expect the loose ends to be worked out in a day or two.
