Does Jap repair suck this bad?

I’m playing a game where my Zuikaku took 85 sys damage during a CV duel… I moved him to Shortlands (Port size 6), and parked him there. 6 Weeks later (July 1), I check up on him, and his sys damage has dropped to 84. That Zuikaku has a max speed of 5 ATM, so I’m a little worried about sending him anywhere… cuz with my luck he’ll sink by the time he gets to Rabaul or Truk.

Is this “about right” for Jap repair rates (I’m a UV inexperienced playah)? If so, what’s the point of keeping it around, I might as well scuttle it. At this rate, maybe by the time the US drop nukes on Japan, it might be down to about 50.

Can any vets respond with “things” I might not be doing right, if that 6 weeks to lose 1 sys damage is not “about right for Jap repair”. As I’m pretty inexperienced, I don’t know what to do… cuz basically, with a 1 sys damage removed every 6 weeks in a level 6 Port, then any Jap carrier that takes a single bomb hit is basically removed from the war.

In my opinion, anything above 30-35 sys damage should get sent back to Japan...

If the float damage is at zero, it shouldn't sink on the way to Truk...

Be sure to pack some DD escort though!

A ship that damaged is definite sub-bait....[8D]

If there is no flotation damage, send her back to Japan. Any Port without ARs and repair facilities will be useless. Agree with Juggalo--make sure you put a decent ASW Screen around her to her the miserable SS away! Good Luck!

One of my quibbles with this game. Yes the USN were much better at damage control in real life but the gap between the two sides in UV is way too big.....USN were not really much better until 43/44 (whilst the IJN seemed to get worse!)

As a rule of thumb 4 1000lb bomb hits will kill any IJN carrier apart from perhaps Akagi/Kaga. Whereas most USN carriers other than Wasp can survive upwards of 10 bomb and 5 torpedo hits if close to a friendly port[:-]

Actually for both sides, a BB or CV in a port, even level 9, will only repair very slowly.

Basically you stick them into a port to get flotation damage to 0 and then bring it back to PH/Japan....That said, a CV with 85 of damage will take almost a year to repair.

I forget the battle...But Shokaku once took 6 bombs (in a real battle) and survivied...

Are there ARs and repair facilities modelled in UV? I thought it´s only in WitP...

The larger the port size the faster the repair. That said, it is a slow process and BBs and CVs will see little help. CAs will see some...But as mentioned, if you are above 30 damaged, especially as the US you should send back for repairs.

For the US one often gets great AA upgrades. The problem for the IJN is in 1943 (especially after spring) the chance of getting back a ship from Japan is not good.
