The COST for ordering reinforcements?

Is there any easy ratio to figure out how many score points your enemy will receive when you order reinforcements?
Does it depend on how MUCH you spend? How much you spent from what was AVAILABLE to spend? Or is there a fixed point system for the mere act of purchasing any?
Thanks.

25% of the amount you spent.

I actually believe that it's 25 percent of the amount that you have available to spend.
So, if you have 200 points, the opponent gets 50 regardless of what you buy.
But, the best way to not worry about this is not to buy them in the first place, as the entire reinforcement thing is amazingly broken.

A little test shows that is the 25% of what you spent. <img src="smile.gif" border="0">

May I ask what you mean by "broken"? You order reinforcements and they come in some varible time in the future or perhaps not at all. This models the uncertainity of the battlefield. This works as definded for me.

HUH?? What do you mean by "broken"?? I always get the ones I order, or are you saying it's not worth the cost per point value in the end?

What I mean by broken is that you can order them in the first place.
No commander, in history, has been able to say "I want a platoon of this, two of that, oh, and some arty." It's like you're at McDonalds.
If you called for reinforcements, and then, a few turns later, got something, perhaps what you wanted, perhaps not, then it would be a good system, and realistic.
The way it works now, though, it's - to borrow an RPG term - twinkish.
Here's a irl example of what I mean:
In late '44 a US unit was clearing out bunkers on the German border. One of it's companies was down to 35 men, led by a Lt. The company was tasked with continuing to knock out bunkers. The commander explained his manpower situation, and asked for reinforcements. He was hoping for an extra company or so, and a couple of tanks.
Now - imagine what you'd buy in SP: WaW...
...
...
Imagined yet?
Here's what he got.
1 squad - yes squad - of engineers. And, to make matters worse, they refused to advance under fire, so his 35 men had to do the job alone, after waiting hours for the help. Not 15 or 20 minutes, like in SP. But hours.
And you can find hundreds of examples like that in WW2 literature.
And I won't even start to go into the way people abuse reinforcements in PBeM.
It's broken. Perhaps CL will fix it.

On the other hand, if that is the definition of broken, the whole game system is broken since you (at least in the "battle type" scenarios) can buy whatever you want. The reinforcement system, quite naturally, follows this as well.
It's all what you make it to. Some like the ability to buy what they want, others like premade scenarios where they have to do with what they got.

I hear ya Alex. First time I ever saw reinforcements was in a PBEM game...after a turn I asked my opponent why some of his units had the 'AUX' designation after their name. I think its definitely something that should always be included in the pre-game 'negotiations'. As long as both players agree (and are aware that they're even available!), OK; otherwise its like one player getting a 20% handicap.

Players can now purchase reinforcements based on 20% of the points spent to make up their initial force.
Page 28 in the manual, unless its been updated since 5.0 I couldn't find any changes to this in the upgrades since.

Reinforcements are allowed in the game so use them if you want. They wouldn't be available other wise - I don't think it has to do with reality, just an added factor in the game play. but if you don't want your opponent to use them then negotiate it or eliminate the reinforcement hexes.
