Collective Ownership of SPWaW

The game belongs to Matrix, but, in a real sense, it belongs to ALL of us.

Now, maybe I get overly sensitive about it because of my close association with certain aspects of the design, but that's just me.

Over the years, literally hundreds of gamers have contributed to SPWaW, so for all of its imperfections, it's become a reflection of what we are, for better or worse.

To me, the good aspects have far outweighed the bad, so I think we should be proud of it. There's room for everyone's playing styles and interpretations, running the gamut from historical simulations to cartoonish bloodfests.

Now there's another riveting thread started by Erwin. I dare not agree or I shall by hounded and stalked by the masses of trolls and hatemongers on this forum so I shall say nothing. But wow, this thread is just damned interesting that it should be put into the Hall of Fame subforum cause this is truly rare material.

It's pretty rare that an active company will support such a old product; and it's even more rare that there's any more interaction between said company and their customers outside of "Gimmie money". Though, I'm sure they wouldn't turn down any bills. [:D]

Active intesest in a game that has been around for over 11 years is phenomenal! Having been involved since the beginning, I'm thrilled to see the interest so intense.

And it may not be over yet.

This game is an all time classic. No doubt about that.

In retrospect, I can only really think of a couple games that are this old that have this level of support. DooM, and SPWaW. I'm sure there are a few more, but for the most part, games do not continue to be popular, nor attract new players. And SPWaW doesn't have the joys of a million source ports, uncountable maps and mods, and a bi-annual collection release from the original company.
