I've seen that type of ship before - it's a French Cruiser - probably called Armored Cruiser - it was shown as an extreme case of tumble home even after they quit building ships of wood.
May have found it...
French Armoured Cruiser Dupuy de Lome..

Hmmm. Now that I have them side by side, I'm not so sure. But they sure look like they came out of the same nest.

I just hope the submerged hull isn't as round as that top, or that beast would roll on wet grass.

I think it looks stylish. I like the look of many of the ships from that era (I'm guessing 1895-1910ish)
