Historical names

While checking out the screenshot of Japan proper, I noticed that a city named Kita-Kyushu. This was officially adopted as the name of a municipality created in 1963 by the merger of several smaller towns and cities, one of which was Kokura (one of the alternate A-Bomb targets). I'm not sure if the region itself went by the name of Kita-Kyushu beforehand and if this even matters since every other location on the map seems to be a city.
