Or, something to pique interest.

Seems everybody is primed over the keyboard, waiting to pounce upon the 'buy' button...me, being one...[:D]

I'm really looking foward to this, too as I missed out on TOAW (and all it's various versions) the first time around.

Guess this is as good a place as any to ask this question. I seem to remember, however vaguely, that TOAW was/is better suited to some scales than others; that is the game engine performed better at the regimental scale than the divisional, or something like that. Anyone else hear this or have insight on it?

FWIW, I prefer battalion-sized units.

BAL,

Yes this is generally true. TOAW seems behave somewhat strangely at the extremes of its time and map scales (e.g., 2.5km/hex, 6-hour turns at the low end; 50km/hex, 1-week turns at the upper end). The sweet spot seems to be just in the middle of that range: 5 - 15km/hex, 1/2-day - 1/2 week turns, with battalion - divisional sized units.

That's been my experience (tho more from a scenario design & playtest perspective versus purely a player's point of view.)

OK, here are some features that I don't believe have been mentioned. These are on the 'fun' side of the fence.

Customization...

Major facelift.

We plan to put in several eras, I don't remember the exact time frames. For example, WW1, WW2, Modern. Within each time frame, we hope to ship specific background music and specifc graphivs for some screens. This should help with immersion, giving a different feel for WW1 and WW2 scenarios.

You can specialize the graphics and text for each scenario. This means that if you're creative, you could do a 'lord of the rings' or 'warhammer 40k' scenario more easily. You could make a map of Britain and a map of North Africa look more different. The possibilities are limited by the imagination.

One clever designer (Jaroslaw Flis) modified the graphics of Escarpments to be hex-side rivers using this approach.

Scenarios are now stored in a tree, organized along the time frames. For exampel, WW2 West Front and WW2 East Front. You won't be scrambling through many scenarios looking for one specific one to play.

There is a button that indicates if there is external documentation available for a scenario. You can click on it to open the documentation.

Foreign Language Support
We hope to ship with English, French and German language DLLs. These can be edited directly for minor changes, although the source code will be freely available. I hope that the fan base will jump in to help with other languages over time.

Well, that functionality's already available using the bioeditor.

Do you know if anyone's looked at getting the bioeditor running against TOAW 3?

Yves- the guy who wrote it in the first place- showed up on TDG not long before it went down. So presumably he'll be around and looking at making the conversion when the game becomes available.

This is a change that I wanted to see. The thing that I didn’t like about TOAW was the damn rivers running through the hexes.
