Expansion of Japan; limits?

Exactly how far should japan expand in this game? What would a good defense line be?
Depends on your style of gameplay.
IJN does not have all that many ships - I wouldn't stray your big boys farther than a week away from a size 8 port.
That pretty much limits you to Wake, Hong Kong, Shanghai, and Tientsin.
Flood Pearl Harbor vicinity with subs, and if they catch several USN battleships, try for Singapore. But don't count on it.
