Having read the posts on this forum most people, if not all the people, appear to play as the Germans in WiR? Can anyone tell me why they don't play as the Russians?

What do I play? The Germans of course!! I want to go one better and take Moscow before Christmas '41 and win the war before Christmas '42!!!

I usually prefer to play the Russians in most games, including WIR. I find them more interesting to play. Besides, it shocks all the SS worshippers.

im not shabby at russkies ,, when i last played the game ( about 1/2 a life time ago when 286's were the bees knees ). took berlin in '42,. the AI has been improved though so maybe not that easy anymore

as for a pbem game .. yes but not till ive got to grips with the game.. having a few odd occurances.

I would like to play the Soviets too, but its not nearly as enjoyable as playing the Germans, mainly because the AI is totally incapable of directing a German blitzkrieg offensive. In fact, the AI needs some basic pointers to allow it to play the Soviets well. It never coordinates multiple corps during breakthroughs, for example. It punches a hole but then sends only one strong corps through the breach, and often will lose that corps due to stupidity.

the last post was dead right - i can remember doing a 1943 campaign as germans and althaugh i was not rolling into moscow (line didn't change much) i did considerable damage to the russians and a lot of it was in surrendering large russian units that went through the line unsupported. The most annoying problem that i used to have with this game was the inability to stop the allies bombing - in the end i used to ignore it and take all fighters to russia - keeping total air supremacy in russia compensated.
