I keep seeing these messages and don't know what they mean...

The 0-0 pitch
The 0-1 pitch
The 1-2 pitch
etc...

SOmeone explain please?

0-0 is no balls and no strikes
1-0 is 1 ball and no strikes
1-1 is 1 ball and 1 strike

4 balls is a walk and 3 strikes is an out.

3-2 is full count.

Quite often in this game, I hear the umpire (sorry for the use of the wrong word...who is he?) saying "Strike" and then the message coming up "1 Out, 0 bases" or "2 outs, 1 man on base"....so why is the player out after his first pitch if it's a strike? I thought, perhaps, the game was simulating, with the one pitch, the entire pitch session to that batter...is this correct?

So I see the message
"So and so picthing to so and so"
"Strike"
"1 out, 0 bases"
etc

What you should be seeing on that is a count with 0-2, 1-2, 2-2, or 3-2.

The next pitch is a strike and the batter is then out on a strike out.

You may also have 3-0, 3-1, or 3-2 and the next pitch is a ball.

On four balls, the batter gets a walk and goes to first base free.

So I should be seeing those counts in game...with the same batter?
Perhaps he's being caught and I'm missing it....I'll have to watch more closely.

I have only managed one game with the new 2007 but you should only see the final count before the action.

If the batter hits the ball, strikes out, or walks, you see the count right before that action. It won't show you 0-0, 0-1, 1-1, 2-1, 2-2, 3-2 then walk. It would only show you 3-2 ball four then a walk.

The game simulates all the pitches before the "action pitch" where the hitter either

strikes out
walks
Gets a hit
Gets out

Thus a strike would mean that there were already 2 strikes on him and a ball would mean he had 3 balls on him.

The umpire-voice only calls "Strike" when the third strike is delivered. Likewise, he only says "Ball" after the fourth ball.

So you should be seeing something like:

"The 1-2 pitch...
(voice: Strike!)
Hal Rodgers struck out!"

(In real baseball, he says "Strike" after each strike, and is usually silent after a ball, but might say "Ball four, take your base" after a walk.)
