New Ballpark Backdrops

Hey everyone,

Last year I put together a collection of modern ballpark images (you can download them from the members section) using real photos found around the Internet. They were pretty well received, so I've decided to put together a new set to celebrate the release of the 2007 version. I'm going to use most of the same actual ballpark photos as I did last year, but the approach will be different.

Last year I moved the various gameplay windows around, and it worked ok, but was never as clean as I wanted it. This year I am going to leave the windows where they are, and just add a little more eye candy. When Shaun gets around to updating the mod-ability of the Game Cast screen, I may starting moving the windows around again, but not until then.

Each ballpark will be placed over a scenic shot of the city where the ballpark is located. I hope prople will appreciate the added "color" this brings to the PSPNcast interface. Of course I will also modify the ball flight graphics to match each park.

Below is a shot of how my Fenway Park will look. Now, this may not be the greatest example, as it's almost impossible to find a good, behind the backstop shot of Fenway, but I think you'll get the idea of how the ballpark and city will be combined (I used a shot of the skyline viewed from the water). I'll let you know when they are finished, and let me know if you have any suggestions.

That's very pretty.

One thing I would like is to have the 'corners' visible - in the screen-shot shown, a shot down the line into the left-field corner goes 'offscreen'; I'd rather have more stadium and less background-image.

Me too!!! Unfortunately, that's the ONLY 640x480 photo of Fenway (from behind home plate) that I can find on the Internet. I'm not cutting the corners off, that's just the original photo. That's why the shot of Turner Field that Shaun uses for the default works so well, it's such a good picture.

I have the perfect solution to this problem. Dispatch a PureSimmer to each major league ballpark with a digital camera, have them get there early and snap a few from behind home plate.

In fact I like this idea so much that for a small fee (to cover cost of travel, game tickets, hotdogs and beer, divorce costs, etc) I will undertake to do this myself.

Or... maybe write to the PR department of the teams and see if they would provide a suitable photo. They may not have a problem with copywrite matters, etc.
