Tips on using WITPchk
WITPchk is a scenario database checker created by user michaelm, see thread for details.
tm.asp?m=734060
Once you download and installed "WIPTchk", available from spookys
http://www.mathubert.free.fr
Don't forget to read the documentation.
Create a batch file forget the typing!
Create a batch file for testing scenario 15
1. Inside the witpchk directory, open notepad and type
witpchk /i /s15 > s15.txt
then save as witp15.bat inside the witpchk directory.
2. You can now run witpchk by clicking on the witp15.bat file.
3. When run it will generate the report rept015.txt and s15.txt inside the witpchk directory.
6. rept015.txt will show what errors are found.
7. s15.txt fill will show what files WITPchk has tested.
Create a batch file for scenario 155
You can now change a *.bat file for any other scenario by editing the witp15.bat and changing the /s15 to /s155 or any other scenario number, then save as witp155.bat. This will alow you to have multiple batch files for all scenarios you want to test. When run it will create a rept155.txt.
Hope this helps!

Have played with this utility trying to get it to run.
I haven't put the installation in the default directory
So after going into DOS and running the thing from there I'm now getting an "Access Denied" message.

Hi,
I've several installs of witp [stock , chs mod and my own mod] and found it better to install the wiptchk.exe file in the Scen folder of each seperate install and then put in a batch file also in the Scen folder[notepad -change extension to .bat with the line
witpchk /s52
this creates the report in the scen folder as reptxxx - xxx = scen number
note. batch file was somebody else's idea.

Can you post exactly what you are getting?
eg
C:\matrix games\war in the pacific\extras>witpchk /s1
WITP database checker utility - Version 1.25
Loading File .\cam001.dat
Trouble opening campaign file
: No such file or directory
Could be several reasons for such a message?

OK after reading all of this, with some one with limited computer skills this seems well out of my leauge. It seems complex like DOS ( I wish DOS would go away in every game to me it's a nightmare ) and batch files, what are these? So am I reading to much into this and is it rally that hard?

Many Thanks
That works fine.
Such a small exe is fine to duplicate in all of my installations
Now I'll look forward to trying to understand the output file
eg
1) Location ID:1129 (Camranh Bay Base Force) - changes in 0 months to a non-Command Organisation HQ (JAPANESE HQs/1)
2) and whats the issue with Japanese and allied Sound detectors
Location ID:1126 (Maloelop Base Force) - device in weapon slot #10 does not show in Replacement Pool (Sound Detector (J))
3) and whats a suffix for these units
Location ID:1478 (1st NLF) - LCU does not have a suffix set
( is this message for all units loaded on transports ???
4) Device ID: 209 (800 kg AP Bomb) - defined but not referenced in database
Class ID: 187 (Renown) - defined but not referenced in database
This last group lots of them look to be issues and this is stock scenario 15
Words of wisdom from someone who knows please. !
Anyway whoever wrote this utility is great !!

Hi,
This is my take on some of the reports
not all report lines mean there is a problem , read the line then look at the reported location in the editor and usually you can see straight away if its a problem.
the program reports false positives ie if a ship upgrades to a different class this will show as an error report . eg in my mod i've AMC upgrading to LSI's this gets reported - i just ignore
1 not sure
2 not sure but they appear to work in game and upgrade to radar devices [ both sides ]
you can put devices above slot 517 but they do not appear in replacement pools but you can add them to units ?
3 some units have there full title in the unit id field and therefore don't require a 'suffix' or the selection of predefined 'suffix's' don't cover the units description
4 devices/classes in the data base that have not been assigned to a on-map unit or rienforcement show up like this , but the device may be an upgrade to an excisting device
5 leaders/pilots not available- they have had there delay set to '9999' so i think they wil never appear.
as said most are pretty easy to understand , if you have any other problems understanding any just post I'm sure somebody will know the answer
hope this helps
cheers

Not everything reported is an error.
Things are reported that could be wrong, also. Sometimes the scenario designer will specifically set something that will be reported. An example of this could be the class a ship upgrades to. It may not have a similar Class name.
1) Location ID:1129 (Camranh Bay Base Force) - changes in 0 months to a non-Command Organisation HQ (JAPANESE HQs/1)
According to the editor, values in the airfield and port in the LCU allow the AI to change Hq after some many months. The values in these fields of the editor point to an invalid HQ.
2) and whats the issue with Japanese and allied Sound detectors
Location ID:1126 (Maloelop Base Force) - device in weapon slot #10 does not show in Replacement Pool (Sound Detector (J))
The Sound Detector devices are not in the range of devices that show up the Replacement Pool, although they do have a Replacement rate defined in the Editor. Seems to have been an oversight in setting up scenarios. These devices ungrade to radar almost at once for Allies.
3) and whats a suffix for these units
Location ID:1478 (1st NLF) - LCU does not have a suffix set
Suffix are normally sub-types of units and they help identify units. Also are used for leader selection also. Units don't have to have a suffix, but this may cause the unit to get the wrong type of random leader.
4) Device ID: 209 (800 kg AP Bomb) - defined but not referenced in database
Class ID: 187 (Renown) - defined but not referenced in database
These are devices that have entries in the scenario file but are not used.
No planes are specified as using 800kg bombs, although they are used in special cases in the game (attack on PH).
There are no ships based on class 187 in the scenario.
There should be readme or such in the ZIP file containing witchk
