Hi All!

I've had lots of problems with my computer lately and decided to format c: and install win2000. Unfortunately i cannot run either WiR or Pacific War because of memory problems. I'm not that very good at OS but if i understand correctly win2000 does NOT have any dos compatibility? Is it even running on 640K as a base memory? If so, then is it possible to free enough memory under to run Wir or Pacwar?
Grateful for all help!

WiR runs fine on my Win2000 system. I've played up to November 1941 without a crash. By sure you run "WIR.EXE" and not the Matrix menu program.

I've also been able to start up and run Pacific War breifly. However, I don't think Win2000 provides enough DOS memory for. Thus I think it might crash as I play it further. I'm going to try it anyway.

I am running WIR under Windows 2000 with 96 megs of RAM. I have no memory problems with either the startup menu or the game.

No problem running WIR or PACWAR on WIN2000.
I am running a PII 350 with 256 megs of ram and a Diamond video card. Perhaps more RAM would help?

The total amount of ram isn't the problem for these old DOS games. The ram needed is the first 640k of ram, that DOS can only use. The issue is likely to be the size and number of real-mode drivers (like for CDROM, Sound, etc) that are loaded before running Win that are taking up space in the first 640k area. On my machine, I only load a small CDROM driver in that area before Win starts, and have never had any problem with any DOS game not having enough memory (except Ultima 7 a *long* time ago, and that wouldn't run under Windows anyway).
