Needs new game.

Looking for a new startegic/operational turn-based level game. Waiting for turns means I have lots of extra time on my hands. I continue to look at WPO, but it just seems like more of the same WITP to me (not that that is bad). Is there anything that is out or nearly out any of you guys intend to get (or have) that you'd recommend?

Oh and I'm curious what you guys think of Pacific Storm which is coming out soon. Beer and Pretzels?

Holy crap! $420 bucks for a boardgame?
Makes WitP look cheap by comparison. I wonder how long it takes to resolve a turn?

You can pre-order it now for a measly $340. I did. It was supposed to come out this month but they just discovered that some of the counters are mis-aligned and it has been delayed for another 3 months. It takes a while to get a turn cranked out, but I suspect it'll be great. The old SPI WitP was great. (I sold my copy on ebay to help fund this one.) I particularly like the fact that they are going to use Victory Games Pacific War land combat. Also, they have all of the Pacific islands to have tactical combat.[:D] That's some 338 islands.[X(] I can't wait. It'll give me something to do waiting for my slovenly opponents to stop crying and send me a turn.[:D]

I looked at pacific storm (there is a demo). I probably didn't give it too much of a chance, but it seemed like a poor flight sim game and almost akin to an older RTS. as a matter of fact, I wouldn't be surprised if they were using an RTS engine from 3-4 years ago.

Wish they had come out with it about 20 years ago. I bought and played all the others-but don't have the space or time to set that baby up now.[:D]

I know what you mean. My oldest graduates from high school in 2 years and he has the biggest bedroom in the house. I wisk him away to college and there is the new and improved war room.[:D]
Edit: That'll give me 2 years to cut out all 9000 of the counters, 32 counter sheets.[X(]

I had both of the old SPI "War in the Pacific" and "War in Europe" from the late 70's. When I was in the Navy (Great Lakes), I would go to the hobby store in Chicago every payday and buy a new game. [:D]
I once had over three trunks full of games, but gave most of them away. [:(]
Now I play one of the Panzer Campaigns from HPS while awaiting my PBEM opponents to get back with me. [:@]

I got bored with board games real quick. My brother offered to play with me once I figured out the rules. That was the end of that as the complication wasn't worth the effort. Now we have computers with far less complicated rules [:D], but at least 'it' knows what the rules are.

I have always been a board game fanatic. I got my first board game 36 years ago.[X(] I have a room devoted to boardgaming (appropriately called the war room) and have a closet full of games. Don't get me wrong. I love good computer games. I have spent most of my waking hours for the past two years thinking about/playing WitP. But, there's something very satisfying about holding KB in your hand and seeing 1/3 of the world spread out on a table in front of you with your navy scattered all over it. To me, that's something a computer will never duplicate.

Yep. When you move that big WiF fleet stack from sea area to sea area, it makes ya feel mighty, for sure.
