Combat explanation

Version 2.1+, beginning of '41 Campaign.
14th Panzer, 3rd Panzer and 48th Panzer vs. Soviet 27th corp.
945 tanks, 1108 squads, 446 artillery and 191 bombers vs. 39 squads.
I have the displays set to high-high and am watching the results as they appear at the bottom of the screen.
Bombardment phase.
Germs = 1 stug III.
Soviet = hvy disp+4 squads, hvy disr+3 squads and mod disr+3 squads.
AT phase
Germans lose 2 PzIIf and 2 PzIIIg
Soviets lose nada.(no armor to lose)
Assault phase
Germans lose total of 6 squads
Soviets lose 9 total squads
Final odds 233 to 1 (Soviets retreat)
On bottom of screen after combat it reads:
Attacker losses Defender losses
tanks 5 tanks 0
squads 6 squads 189 (???)
guns 0 guns 51 (??)
As if that were not confusing enough, the combat report says:
Axis attacked with
751 tanks(??), 1108 squads(ok), 1109 guns(?)
Soviets defended with
0 tanks, 209 squads(??), 51 guns(???)
On the Soviet turn I look at the 27th corp and it hardly looks like it was in a battle much less in a 233 to 1 odds battle.
Whatsup with that?
