Hey, EB and anyone else who might know. I've been playing TCP/IP against various people from various countries and had few connection troubles. But Now I'm trying to play a guy and the following happens:

We can click on the other persons computer name or number...but then we get the message DPERR_Timeout. Firewalls have been turned off, and everything that can be done to facilitate communication has been done. I can see his computer...I just can't connect to it.

We both have version 1.2.18

The DPERR (Direct Play Error) is a very generic error message so it's hard to tell from that what's going on.  Did you try rebooting both machines and connecting again?  Sometimes on our LAN we'll get a machine that just won't connect until we reboot it.

By the way, are you having any further problems with hexwar in 1.2.18?  Diplomat order problem?

HI EB,
Thank you for your answer.  I haven't heard from the guy lately so I don't know what's happening with him and his system. REgarding the rebooting, we've done that, but not more than once each.  It's something I never had to do before.
The diplomats problem still asserts itself.  Also, the host still has to be the first player in the turn order e.g., France...if anyone is playing France, or orders don't get followed, etc.
We haven't gotten an error in hexwar, either because we've been fighting QB's or because we've studiously avoided having more than one army in an area, or not reinforced.  BUt in one-army-vs-one-army-battles, it's been trouble free.
