Here's a kid I know --Iraq 2003:

This is Cpl Jason Gillispie, who became a fire-team leader in the 1st Bn/2nd Marines. His mom, a good friend of mine, is justifiably proud of him.

I notice your from England...

I guess those guys fighting in and around Basra during the war were just disguised as English troops.

I hope your proud of supporting a terrorist regime that defied UN sanctions and denied arms inspectors the ability to check for WMDs that obviously someone long before Bush II even ran for office felt existed; besides the fact that those same "non-existant" chemical weapons were used in mass genocide of native Kurds. Let's not forget your rape houses and torture chambers that you so whole-heartedly support. Be thankful that that man and other's like him are over there, protecting your worthless excuse for horse hide's right to ridicule, mock, insult, and condemn him for the "illegal" war. Know the facts you worthless peice of pig's ear; before you spout off your anti-American, anti-military rhetoric.

Sorry! I mean no disrespect, i am very proud of both our countries military traditions and achivements. I know the bravery the Amercian soldier showed in ww2, i have been to Europe, spent time in Belgium and Luxembourg, there is hardly a village there that does not have a moument to the American and British service men who gave their lives to liberate them. But i feel what is going on in Iraq now is wrong, and i fear that history is going to judge both our countries badly. No disrespect to the guys who are out there, they are just soldiers doing their duty, i just wish to God that they were not there at all.

ok first of all who said i am supporting any terroist regime?? i said the war in Iraq is illegal. The reason for starting the war as stated by Tony Blair was that Iraq was concealing WMD'S which to date have not been found. So excuse me if i sound pissed off cos my country was lied too. Yes chemical weapons were used during the Iran - Iraq war, and Naplam was used by the USA in vietnam, who can forget the picture of the little vietnamise girl running naked down the road, her body burned? Rape houses and torture houses that i support? when did i say that? What about the human right abuses that are occuring in china? or africa? why is the usa not doing somthing about that? C'mon! It is this gung-ho attitude that turns my stomach over. And what exactly are u protecting me from? there were no terrorist attacks in England before the invasion of Afghanhistan and Iraq. Now i am living in a country that is divided. There is a large muslim population here that we used to live in harmony with, now there are feelings of anger, resentment and mistrust. Since the invasion of Iraq more civilians have died than during the whole of Saddams reigme. That is a fact.

One of the first attempts to independently estimate the loss of civilian life from the Iraqi war has concluded that at least 100,000 Iraqi civilians may have died because of the U.S. invasion.

The analysis, an extrapolation based on a relatively small number of documented deaths, indicated that many of the excess deaths have occurred due to aerial attacks by coalition forces, with women and children being frequent victims, wrote the international team of public health researchers making the calculations.

The events occuring in Iraq now are a stain on both our countries reputations, and nothing to feel proud about.

STOP!! This has absolutely nothing to do with political stuff. Jason, and thousands like him, had no choice in this.

They do as they are ordered. They do their jobs to the best of their ability.

Politics aside, I admire these kids. I hate this war, too, BUT these young people represent the best qualities of America.

hm....what I would like to know is when the public will have a guess what the real reasons for this war were. I will not forget the discussion in Germany which felt into elections and Chancellor Schröder played the "pacifism and anti-amerikanism card" with great success here.

I myself thought, ok..when Saddam has chemical weapons etc....ok. And hoped that this would be the case.

I am not a pacifist..and I am not at all against the USA but nevertheless, I do not believe that Bush started the war because Saddam was such an ugly guy and mistreated his people. NO country starts a war simply because a regime is evil. AND I do not believe that the CIA is so incompetent not to know that Saddam had no mass destruction weapons.

So...I am very exicted to learn the real reasons....... I have some ideas...but ok..thats all very vague

Marines are like mothers, they are both awesome and do good things for other people but are both tragically underappreciated.

Mac67, your whole misconception of the situation seems to be based on a figure conjured up from a few close bombing accidents in the initial stages multiplied over several years of virtual inactivity for a convenient, overblown number. The truth is, since the invasion, the Iraqis have killed many more of their own with cowardly bombings than America ever did.

Saddam was a bad guy who tortured people. That's good enough reason for me to take him out.

Zardoz, just so you know, the unofficial reason for the invasion of Iraq was to provide a long-term, but impotent enemy for America to help stimulate various factors favorable to supporting a supercontinental power status similar to the stimulus previously provided by the Cold War. Or to put it more simply, a situation with low combat potential coupled with a large threat perception. You have to rely on your own wits to sort out what is true and what isn't and who to trust.

Well firstly this should not even be here.  What the hell do politics have to do with spwaw?  From what I can gather sweet fuck all.
Secondly  who cares what you think about the "war in Iraq".  Most people are in two camps over this and tend to go at it like dogs when anyone dares to point a finger at the other.
This thread should be removed.  Even starting this thread here was inapropreate.  Also a picture of this Marine has no bearing on this game.

Your absolutely right of course! I mean a war game has nothing to do with real troops or anything at all to do with real world events.

I do love how some people against something try to be sneaky about how they muzzle what they dont like.

The inappropriate post is the one injecting politics into the thread. Just for those who cant understand English, there is no reason a picture of a soldier , Marine, sailor or airman shouldnt be in a forum for a WARGAME. The attempt to make a personal attack on the poster was uncalled for. The response was typical... Golly gee, I didnt really mean to attack the miltary, I really meant to attack the politicians....

I have an idea, next time you want to attack George Bush or his administrations, have the BALLS to address them. And dont forget that the Democrats in Congress voted OVERWHELMING in support of war. Least you forget the Democrats for 8 years before Bush called for the over throw of Saddam Hussein and all intelligence for those 8 years indicated he had WMD. I realize that is inconvient to the "we were lied to crowd"
