This FAQ [Frequently Asked Questions] is maintained by the developers. All the important information will be in the top message. If you feel that something happens enough to warrant an entry, please reply to this post, and it may be added. We're trying to keep this to the top obscure questions.

What is the latest version
3.1.0.9, available in the member's section.

What other FAQs and resources are out there covering COW.
WarfareHQ has a detailed FAQ.
Gamesquad (formerly known as WHQ, SZO, and XtremeGamer) has a forum, a ladder system, and a number of scenarios and articles.
Rugged Defense has a forum, a ladder system, and a number of scenarios and articles.
The Blitz has a forum, a ladder system, and a number of scenarios and articles.
TDG has a number of scenarios and articles. It also has an active forum that a lot of designers post to.

Why can't I run TOAW.
The biggest complaint that we've seen is that some machines won't play all the opening movies. If this happens to you, please rename the Talonsoft and TOAW_Studio AVI files to different filenames. If this still doesn't work, please contact support@matrixgames.com

What is the COW 1.06 Patch
The last playable version of COW was 1.04. Version 1.06 was released for a short time and then withdrawn. It was never fully released. It includes changes to the combat routines so that rounds have a chance of hitting the side armor at various angles. This should provide a slight help to hordes of weaker tanks against stronger. It has been recently discovered that there may have been changes to the reorganization routines and other areas. These changes may help make "ant" attacks less profitable.

How do I switch to European date format (D/M/Y)
An updated 'Language' file is be available in the members area.

Where did my scenarios go?
There's a button on the far left labeled HQ. If you click on it, it will bring up a Windows folder dialog, and allow you to select a specific folder. Select an era and theater that you want to play. Feel free to add your own branches.

Why can't I exit a PBEM game?
You can, when you exit or end the turn, you exit the game as well.

Why is the view/options/text contrast now on the beginning menu.
While it would be very ugly to play with, some of the scenario briefings are hard to read on the bitmap background with some monitors. The maximum contrast option is ideal for reading some of the long briefings.

My system doesn't meet the minumum requirements, will it still run?
Probably. The memory used has increased to fix a compatibility issue with some NVidia 6800 based systems. If your system is light on memory, turning off the sound will probably help the most, the sound system hasn't been fine-tuned yet and takes up more memory than it should.

What does a Physical Disk Contain
Boxed copy options (Physical + Digital and Physical Only) cost $10 US more than the Digital Download Only price. Unfortunately, there is no "upgrade" to the physical options from the digital download only. The boxed copy itself is a full color printed DVD box with an included full color printed CD that is personalized with your Order # and Serial # (so that you won't lose them).

Also, since we get this question a lot - all versions include a searchable PDF manual.

Why is Jose's name the only one in RED in the credits?

Where can I find a list of scenarios that ship with the game?

See the .pdf file attached to this post.

I don't have Microsoft Word installed, and can't open the scenario docs in a readable fashion. What can I do?

Microsoft offers a free file viewer for its MS Word files. You can get it by clicking on this link
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/deta ... laylang=en

Boxed copy options (Physical + Digital and Physical Only) will be available about five business days from the initial release. These will cost $10 US more than the Digital Download Only price. Unfortunately, there is no "upgrade" to the physical options from the digital download only, so if you are sure you want a boxed copy, please wait for those options to show up.

Also, since we get this question a lot - all versions include a searchable PDF manual.

Will the Digital+Physical option still be available 5 business-day after release (which should be Monday 12 if I'm not mistaken)? I have the (hopefully false) impression that it will be delayed a couple of days/weeks.

We currently expect that availability on Monday the 12th is realistic and will happen.

Ralph – Help!

What does “(Physical + Digital and Physical Only)” mean? Sounds like the people who opt to buy the CD version will not be able to incorporate the download digital updates . . . is this correct??

If my guess is correct, does this mean that the Beta testers and scenario authors who receive complimentary CDs will not be able to update? Sounds odd, my guess must be wrong. Please clarify this for me.

Also, what are the boxed copy “options” that you mentioned. Are these the upgrades?

It is how the intial product is delivered, that's all. There are three options Digital, Physical + Digital and Physical Only.

Sorry, but I'm being a bit dim today. Had a tough week fighting bad guys in the Miltary-Industrial Complex

For a person who has (or will) purchase the CD, is it possible for them to download patches/upgrades to the basic program?

The statement "Unfortunately, there is no "upgrade" to the physical options" makes me wonder if this is possible.

What he means is that you can't get the download version, and then subsequently get the boxed copy without paying full price for it. The patches and updates are the same for all.

Boxed Copies Now Available!

Hi everyone,

I'm pleased to report that boxed copies of TOAW III are now available in our store.

I need some help understanding just what "no "upgrade" to the physical options from the digital download only" means. Almost sounds like the CD version cannot be upgraded with patches. Hope that's not right!

I think (but don't trust me on this) that it means you cannot, paying the 10 extra $, get the Physical copy on top of a previously bought Digital download copy. Either you go Digital download or Boxed copy.

Patches to the game apply whatever the buying option so I think there are no reasons to worry on this front [;)]

Cheers,
Marc

Not right at all, don't worry. That means that if you already bought the digital download, there's no "upgrade" option in the store to add a boxed copy for $10. We don't have that ability in the store at present. That's the upgrade being discussed not the actual upgrade to the game through any future updates.

All versions of TOAW III, whether via digital download or boxed copy, are exactly the same and fully compatible with future updates.

- Erik

Launch TOAW and open the editor. Load the desired CoW scenario and save it as a TOAW III scenario. Voilà [;)]

Hope it helps

Physical + Digital and Physical Only . . . Digital Download Only . . . no "upgrade" to the physical options from the digital download only . .

Guys, thanks for being patient and explaining this in simplified English. Something about that “options and physical and digital” business gave me complete gray matter lock up.
