The Ultimate WiR Reworking-Don't Hold Your Breath

Gentlemen, I understand that Matrix has done a great job in working with what it was given. WiR is a great game, BUT it was written in a DOS format in an era when PC wargaming was just getting started. This must be kept in mind. The amount of work that Gary Grigsby put into this project deserves our greatest admiration, BUT, it was not perfect. This was a work of immense complexity, and there is STILL a tremendous amount of work to be done. I get the feeling that the game was initially released as a work-in-progress. Matrix has taken the next step, but I think that the game, as is, will take a good deal more time to become what Mr. Grigsby intended. That being said, I can express my admiration towards those who are working on a Windows-based division-level adaptation of the same campaign. This is truly a monumental project. With that in mind, let's give the Matrix guys the benefit of the doubt. We may see a definitive WiR, BUT, with it not being developed in-house, don't bet the farm on it. Let's just say they did the best with what they had. GH.

There is no WiR remake underway, sadly. At least Matrix hasn't publically said so. So unless Matrix commits to this, the DOS WiR update is all we'll have, for the forseeable future.

I don't think any of the other "modern" windows games such as TalonSofts Eastfront hold a candle to this game. So if they do build a new one I hope it is not on the lines of the "modern" games which in my opinion are beautiful to look at but suck as far as replay value and having no depth. I bought this game longtime ago and have not stopped playing since, I would love to see a rewrite that would carry the same level of replay value.
